Job Description
Piper Companies is seeking a Network Engineer Tier 3 to support a government-focused cybersecurity and IT operations environment. The Network Engineer Tier 3 role is ideal for a highly experienced network professional with deep expertise in enterprise networking, security infrastructure, and data center operations who can support mission-critical systems in a secure federal environment.
Responsibilities of the Network Engineer Tier 3:
• Install, configure, maintain, and optimize LAN and WAN infrastructure including routers, switches, VPN appliances, load balancers, and security devices.
• Monitor and analyze network performance using management tools, troubleshoot issues, and optimize environments based on best practices.
• Apply security patches across network devices including routers, switches, voice/video systems, and security appliances.
• Maintain accurate inventory of network assets, including hardware and software lifecycle management.
• Provide design recommendations and technical input during engineering and planning meetings.
• Support data center network operations, including storage, virtualization systems, and infrastructure expansion efforts.
• Troubleshoot network outages and issues impacting voice, video, and data services while coordinating upgrades and improvements.
• Configure and manage routing, switching, and firewall technologies within complex secure environments.
• Support both Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems, ensuring proper integration with network services.
• Prepare detailed reports on network performance, incidents, upgrades, and infrastructure status.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for client technical issues, providing timely troubleshooting and resolutions.
• Participate in and lead network projects, ensuring proper planning, execution, and adherence to timelines.
• Implement and enforce network security protocols to prevent unauthorized access and cyber threats.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical issues and improve system resilience.
• Assist in designing and implementing disaster recovery and backup solutions.
Qualifications of the Network Engineer Tier 3:
• Active Top Secret clearance required.
• Strong experience with Cisco routers and switches (IOS/NX-OS).
• Hands-on experience with Palo Alto firewalls and VPN technologies.
• Experience with F5 load balancers (GTM/Big-IP DNS preferred).
• Familiarity with General Dynamics Taclanes and/or GEMOne is a plus.
• Strong understanding of network security, traffic analysis, vulnerability assessment, and systems hardening.
• Proficiency with Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols including BGP, VLANs, LLDP, LACP, ARP, and 802.1x.
• Knowledge of encryption and communication protocols such as TLS/SSL, IPsec, SSH, DNS, and NTP.
• Experience supporting both Windows and Unix/Linux systems in enterprise environments.
• Demonstrated expertise in network design, implementation, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
• Strong ability to manage multiple projects and tasks within defined timelines.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Compensation for the Network Engineer Tier 3 includes:
• Salary range: $150,000 - $175,000
