Job Description
The Army Aviation NDI-II Non-Destructive Inspector Level II (FAA A&P) performs all aspects of Non-Destructive Inspections on assigned aircraft and associated equipment. Inspects aircraft and equipment condition for safety and ensures compliance with technical directives and inspection criteria. Advises in the use of technical data to analyze and determine NDI results.

- Perform Non-Destructive Inspections on assigned aircraft and related components as indicated by manufacturer and Department of State requirements.
- Ensure maintenance safety procedures are complied with at all times.
- Review incoming technical publications and directives for applicability.
- Assist maintenance as necessary in technical matters involving Non-Destructive Inspection.
- Ensure all required reports and documentation are completed thoroughly and accurately.
- Review records to determine discrepancy trends and specific problem areas.
- Monitor calibration of equipment and special tools required.
- Continually constantly aware of potential Foreign Object Damage (FOD) hazards.
- Continuously reviews pertinent technical publications and related directives in order to remain current on changes to subject material.
- Recommend and advise responsible parties on technical publications which would be of prime and essential assistance in performing the Non-Destructive Inspection.
- Responsible for timely and accurate completion of all required forms, records, and reports relative to the quality control function.
- Perform inspections in accordance with technical publications and the Quality Control Plan.
- Ensure safety procedures are complied with at all times.
- Coordinate activities with Quality Control Manager.
- Perform other qualified duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- High School Graduate or equivalent is required.
- Shall have five years of recent applicable aircraft maintenance experience.
- Must possess either an FAA A&P Certificate, or FCC Elements 1 and 3, one of the certificates is required. Years of experience required for either Cert is below.
- With a valid FAA A&P certificate Inspector must have at least one year experience inspecting assigned UH-60, AH-64, CH-47 Mission Design Series (MDS) aircraft.
- If no A&P; Must possess an FCC license with Elements 1 and 3 with a minimum Five (5) years' experience as an aircraft inspector on the UH-60, AH-64, CH-47 Mission Design Series (MDS) airframe they will be inspecting.
- Must be trained and qualified per NAS 410 or ASNT-CP-189 to the level assigned.
- Must provide Classroom Training Certification for a minimum of 40 hours, IAW NAS 410, 6.1 Training.
- Must provide NDI Certification and have a minimum of 600 experience time in hours, IAW NAS 410, 6.3.2 Equivalent Experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance, NAC-I T1 (Public Trust). Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.
- Interim NACI approval is required prior to deployment.
- A Valid US Passport is Required for travel to Germany
- Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
Germany Specific:
- TESA Approval: (German Govt) Must be able to qualify for TESA approval; with 5 years career total Aviation maintenance experience (should be in the last 5 years).
- Travel: As required in support of task order.
Knowledge & Skills
- Full knowledge of T.O. 33B-1-1 Non-Destructive Inspection Methods and Basic Theory.
- Able to certify I/A/W NAS-410 as a level II technician Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Ultrasound, Eddy Current and Radiography.
- Knowledge of The Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS), Aviation unit level and Intermediate level maintenance processes and procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of component time before overhaul, records keeping, historical records, and associated equipment, and applicable technical orders required.
- Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration maintenance management programs, historical records, and system of component tracking and air worthiness directive tracking.
- Exceptional ability to comprehend all aspects of TAMMS, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and generally accepted maintenance practices.
- Working knowledge of Quality Control, Quality Assurance and related programs and regulations.
- Exceptional knowledge of and application of AWIS data management systems.
- Effective interpersonal skills for complex system inspection relating to safety of flight and on the job maintenance activities.
- Ability to analyze inspection findings, and determine best case analysis.
- Fully knowledgeable of all requirements within the complex aviation maintenance repair, overhaul and functional use as they apply.
- Able to interpret technical data, and determine best case path forward to correct deficiencies.
- Possess a current U.S. passport or the ability to obtain one before the assignment.
- Previous experience with the Contract Field Team Maintenance concept and its application to U.S. Military maintenance, modification and repair of tactical aircraft systems preferred.
Physical and Additional Working Environment Requirements
- Must not have physical restrictions or existing medical conditions that may prevent them from serving in a remote area with limited medical care.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50+ pounds.
- Must be able to run, walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for up to 8 hours minimum per day and sit for up to three hours per day.
- Must have no physical limitations that may prevent wearing of flight helmet, body armor or other equipment required for this position.
- Must be able to crouch, crawl, climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
- Must be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to three (3) hours per day and sit for up to five (5) hours per day.
- Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs.
- Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders.
- Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print.
- Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
- Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depths.
- This classification activity, while principally accomplished in an office environment, does have duties that require frequent travel and require the individual to work outside the office environment.
- Typical physical demands or activities include climbing, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, kneeling, reaching and walking.
- May be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds.
