Job Description
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior Elastic Engineer to join an industry leading defense technology organization supporting mission-critical infrastructure at Hanscom AFB, MA or Langley AFB, VA. The Senior Elastic Engineer will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and optimizing large-scale Elastic Stack environments supporting enterprise search, logging, security monitoring, and observability. This role will focus on ensuring platform reliability, automation, scalability, and operational excellence across Kubernetes-based deployments within highly secure government environments.
Responsibilities for the Senior Elastic Engineer Include:
• Administer, support, and optimize enterprise-scale Elastic Stack environments supporting search, logging, observability, and security operations.
• Manage Kubernetes-based Elastic deployments utilizing the Elastic Cloud on Kubernetes (ECK) Operator.
• Design and implement automation for platform deployment, monitoring, incident response, and operational workflows.
• Develop and maintain observability frameworks including centralized logging, metrics collection, distributed tracing, and performance monitoring.
• Build dashboards and visualizations to monitor infrastructure health, network bandwidth, application performance, and cluster utilization.
• Update and maintain data collectors across Kubernetes clusters to ensure accurate telemetry and system visibility.
• Plan and coordinate cluster maintenance activities including shutdowns, upgrades, data retention, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Integrate Elastic Stack with SIEM, EDR, and enterprise security platforms including Splunk, CrowdStrike, Trellix, and related telemetry systems.
Qualifications for the Senior Elastic Engineer Include:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field required. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise production environments as a Site Reliability Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineer, Systems Engineer, or Elastic Engineer.
• Extensive experience administering enterprise Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash, Beats, Fleet) environments.
• Strong expertise deploying and managing Kubernetes environments, with Elastic Cloud on Kubernetes (ECK) experience highly preferred.
• Strong Linux/Unix administration and networking fundamentals.
• Experience implementing enterprise observability, monitoring, and telemetry solutions.
• Experience developing automation utilizing Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD pipelines, or Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
• Experience integrating Elastic with SIEM, EDR, and enterprise security platforms such as Splunk, CrowdStrike, Trellix, or similar technologies.
• Ability to create operational dashboards, monitoring visualizations, and infrastructure health reporting.
• Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and incident response skills supporting distributed production systems.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across infrastructure, security, engineering, and operations teams.
• Active Secret Clearance required or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
Compensation for the Senior Elastic Engineer includes:
Salary Range: $180,000 - $200,000 annually depending on experience
