Location: Sunnyvale, CA (Onsite Only)
Type of Role: Direct Hire (Full-Time, Onsite)
Shift: 9x80 Schedule (Every other Friday off; onsite full-time)
Pay:
$151,200 – $266,570 annually in CA, MA, NY (excluding most major metropolitan areas), CO, HI, IL, MD, MN, NJ, VT, WA, and Washington DC
$173,900 – $301,415 annually in most major metropolitan areas in CA, MA, and NY
For other states, the salary range will reflect the candidate’s final work location and consider scope, responsibilities, experience, education/training, key skills, and market and business factors. This position is incentive plan eligible.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
This role is for a Space Vehicle Responsible Systems Principal Engineer (SV RSE) supporting next?generation space vehicle programs. The SV RSE serves as the technical advocate for the satellite throughout its life cycle—from requirements definition through mission operations—ensuring the space vehicle meets program technical requirements and engineering processes while balancing technical performance, cost, schedule, and risk to ensure mission success.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Oversee all space vehicle performance and integration activities, including support of all satellite testing, culminating in final certification of the satellite for launch.
Oversee element?level and below CPEs/RSEs for hardware, software, and databases to assure compliance with the spacecraft?level technical baseline.
Oversee the development and verification of space vehicle requirements and drive space vehicle certification.
Lead space vehicle?level Material Review Board (MRB) and Failure Review Board (FRB) investigations.
Lead failure analysis to determine root cause and define corrective actions.
Communicate technical concepts, status, decisions, and risks clearly to program and customer management.
Travel occasionally for subcontractor oversight and launch campaigns.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Experience in satellite design, integration, test, and/or operations.
Subsystem or component experience working as a CPE (Certified Principal Engineer), RSE (Responsible Systems Engineer), or in an equivalent role.
Leadership experience driving technical issues and challenges to closure.
Active DoD Top Secret clearance; U.S. Citizenship required.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in spacecraft integration with expertise across multiple subsystems, including electrical and mechanical design, payloads, and heritage satellite bus programs (e.g., A2100/LM2100?class).
Strong technical leadership experience with a proven ability to lead teams and resolve complex issues.
Deep understanding of systems engineering, mission assurance, and product certification processes for high?reliability space systems.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts, decisions, and risks to both technical and non?technical stakeholders.
Proven application of established engineering processes to deliver high?cost, mission?critical satellite systems.
Strong problem?solving and decision?making skills, balancing cost, schedule, technical performance, and risk, with a track record of sound judgment and successful program execution.
Ability to lead issue resolution, drive closure, and facilitate cross?functional collaboration.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and team?building skills with the ability to build consensus across stakeholders.
Extensive technical knowledge of assigned products and strong systems?thinking expertise, with the ability to apply and mentor others.
Willingness to take full ownership and accountability, including the authority to halt production, testing, or launch to ensure mission success.
Ability to operate effectively in a fast?paced, dynamic environment with multiple responsibilities and willingness to support 24/7 operational needs as required.
Relevant exposure to OPIR?type programs, prior space?systems experience, and several years of combined technical and leadership experience.
Ability to provide technical oversight of space vehicle testing campaigns for all major test phases (Baseline Test, Thermal Vacuum Test, Acoustic Test, Final Test, Launch Base Confidence Test) and to function as the Anomaly Resolution Team (ART) lead on the day of launch.
Active TS/SCI security clearance.
