Job Description
Position Summary
10x National Security is seeking 3D Modeling, Virtual Environments and Simulation Specialists to create engineering-grade digital assets and interactive environments supporting Army digital engineering. The specialists will transform CAD data, engineering models, drawings, terrain, imagery, scans, and other source information into accurate and usable 3D environments for design review, analysis, experimentation, training, testing, and stakeholder decision-making.
This is an engineering visualization and real-time simulation role, not a marketing-graphics position. Army programs are using CAD-derived models in mixed-reality and virtual-reality environments to obtain engineering feedback and assess designs before physical systems are available.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop, modify, optimize, and maintain high-fidelity 3D models of systems, subsystems, equipment, facilities, terrain, operational environments, and human-machine workspaces.
Convert and ingest data from CAD, PLM, MBSE, engineering drawings, point clouds, photogrammetry, LiDAR, GIS, and other authoritative sources.
Preserve engineering scale, coordinate systems, component hierarchy, part identifiers, model metadata, material properties, and configuration status during model conversion.
Build interactive virtual environments and simulations supporting engineering design reviews, mission-thread analysis, human-in-the-loop evaluation, operator and maintainer assessment, training, test planning, and technical demonstrations.
Develop real-time content using an appropriate engine such as Unreal Engine or Unity and supporting digital-content tools such as Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, or equivalent.
Create geometry, materials, textures, lighting, animations, rigs, collision models, physics behavior, level-of-detail models, user interfaces, and scenario logic.
Optimize models and environments for workstation, visualization wall, virtual reality, augmented reality, and other approved deployment targets.
Develop repeatable pipelines for CAD conversion, asset preparation, metadata retention, model validation, version control, release, and reuse.
Integrate simulations with data feeds, application programming interfaces, telemetry, geospatial services, engineering calculations, or other Government-approved systems where required.
Support interoperability through appropriate open and industry formats such as STEP, JT, USD, glTF, FBX, or other program-selected standards.
Establish verification and validation methods to confirm geometric accuracy, model fidelity, expected behavior, and suitability for the intended engineering or training use.
Maintain source files, assets, scripts, documentation, and released models under disciplined configuration and change control.
Produce model dictionaries, technical documentation, validation reports, demonstrations, renderings, animations, and briefings.
Protect Government, proprietary, CUI, export-controlled, and classified model data in accordance with applicable handling requirements.
Collaborate with systems engineers, human-centered integration specialists, cybersecurity personnel, testers, trainers, data managers, and Government subject-matter experts.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, modeling and simulation, game or simulation development, digital visualization, interactive media, or a related discipline. A strong technical portfolio and equivalent experience may substitute for a specific degree.
At least five years of experience producing 3D models, simulations, or interactive virtual environments.
Demonstrated proficiency with at least one real-time development platform, preferably Unreal Engine or Unity.
Demonstrated proficiency with at least one professional 3D content-development tool, such as Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max.
Experience importing, cleaning, restructuring, and optimizing CAD or other complex technical models for real-time use.
Knowledge of polygonal modeling, UV mapping, physically based rendering, material development, animation, rigging, collision, physics, lighting, and level-of-detail optimization.
Ability to script or develop simulation logic using Python, C++, C#, Blueprints, or an equivalent environment.
Portfolio demonstrating technically accurate 3D modeling, virtual environments, simulation, or immersive applications.
Ability to document model sources, transformations, assumptions, configuration status, and validation results.
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain the required clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting Army or DoD acquisition, engineering, test, training, or modeling and simulation programs.
Experience with CAD platforms such as Creo, Siemens NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD and PLM environments such as Teamcenter, Windchill, or 3DEXPERIENCE.
Experience connecting 3D environments to MBSE or systems-architecture models.
Experience with virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, motion capture, photogrammetry, LiDAR, digital human modeling, or immersive training.
Experience with geospatial technologies such as Cesium, ArcGIS, terrain services, or coordinate-reference transformations.
Familiarity with distributed simulation or interoperability standards such as HLA, DIS, FMI, or program-specific simulation interfaces.
Experience with Perforce, Git LFS, artifact repositories, automated asset pipelines, or other configuration-management technologies.
Knowledge of modeling and simulation verification, validation, and accreditation practices.
Experience developing models or simulations inside controlled, CUI, or classified environments.
Measures of Success
Within the initial 90 days, the specialists should establish a controlled 3D asset pipeline, ingest a representative Government engineering data set, produce an interactive virtual environment, document its fidelity and limitations, and demonstrate that the model can support a real design, training, test, or acquisition decision.
Senior-level adjustment: The Senior Specialist should have at least eight years of relevant experience and own the technical pipeline, data-conversion standards, model quality, configuration approach, integration architecture, and technical coordination with Government engineering leads.
