Job Description

Chipton-Ross is seeking a Circuit Design Engineer for a hybrid contract opportunity in Orlando, FL.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)

  • Secret clearance required at submittal.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Relevant circuit-card design experience (schematic capture and PCB layout)
  • Ability to perform analog and mixed-signal circuit analysis and simulation

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Circuit Design Engineer Senior you will own the end to end development of the control circuit hardware-from initial concept through detailed design, simulation, verification, fabrication support and system integration. You will work closely with servo specialists, subject matter experts, mechanical packaging engineers and external vendors to deliver a robust, high performance, producible CCA that meets stringent laser weapon requirements. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Own the full product lifecycle for control circuit assemblies (CCA)
  • Develop detailed schematics and PCB layouts using industry standard tools.
  • Create comprehensive verification plans, to confirm that the CCA meets all electrical, timing, and safety requirements.
  • Work closely with servo system specialists and subject matter experts to define control algorithms, feedback loops, and interface requirements
  • Collaborate with mechanical and packaging engineers to resolve board level constraints.
  • Liaise with external silicon and PCB vendors, providing clear design files, bill of materials (BOM), and manufacturing instructions; support prototype fabrication, assembly, and yield analysis activities.
  • Generate and maintain complete design documentation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)

  • Update design requirements and coordinate servo requirements
  • Update schematics incorporating servo and SME feedback
  • Perform power, stability, ADC/DAC accuracy, electrical-stress, and signal-quality analyses
  • Conduct EE implementation and packaging implementation reviews
  • Complete layout & routing (constraints, stack-up, EPCAD support)
  • Support packaging prerelease review and DVT/test-plan creation
  • Assist CCA fabrication (PWB vendor coordination, component procurement, CCA population)
  • Conduct initial testing (inspection, bench test, DVT, integration support)
  • Proficiency with Mentor Graphics, Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or comparable tools
  • Strong background in analog/mixed-signal design, power electronics, and control-loop theory
  • Experience with SPICE-based simulation and signal-integrity analysis tools
  • Familiarity with ADC/DAC selection, voltage-level translation, and EMI/EMC mitigation techniques
  • Prior work on laser or directed-energy weapon systems or high-energy electromagnetic applications
  • Knowledge of military standards and qualification processes
  • Experience with vendor management, low-volume high-reliability PWB fabrication, and component sourcing
  • Familiarity with system-integration testing and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation environments
