Job Description
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Systems Administrator to support a premier government contractor based in Rome, NY . The Systems Administrator will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing critical infrastructure, supporting Windows and Linux systems, administering network services, and implementing security best practices across the environment. This position will be onsite in Rome, NY and requires an active Secret clearance.

Responsibilities of the Systems Administrator include:
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows and Linux servers, operating systems, applications, and hardware
- Monitor system performance and proactively identify and resolve potential issues
- Troubleshoot technical problems and escalate complex issues when necessary
- Implement and maintain system security controls including firewalls, antivirus solutions, and intrusion detection systems
- Perform system backups, recovery operations, and disaster recovery activities
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls
- Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages
- Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting processes
- Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, and cybersecurity teams on enterprise initiatives
- Research and recommend new technologies to improve system performance, reliability, and security
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and knowledge base articles
Qualifications of the Systems Administrator include:
- 3+ years of experience in Systems Administration
- Strong experience administering Windows and/or Linux operating systems
- Knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and routing fundamentals
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, vSphere, ESXi, Hyper-V, or similar platforms
- Experience with scripting and automation using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or comparable tools
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Active Secret Clearance required
- Security+, SecurityX, CASP+, or equivalent DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent experience may be substituted
Preferred Qualifications:
- Microsoft certifications including MCSA or MCSE
- Red Hat certifications including RHCSA or RHCE
- Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure environments
- Experience with systems hardening, vulnerability remediation, and cybersecurity best practices
Compensation for the Systems Administrator includes:
- Salary: $85,000 - $95,000
