Job Description

Duties

  • You will investigate workplaces, facilities, and operation mishaps by obtaining statements from witnesses or taking photographs of mishap scene.
  • You will advise management and union officials concerning safety requirements, methods, and techniques for preventing accidents.
  • You will develop plans for safety and occupational health activities
  • You will use Safety and Occupational Health principles, practice and procedures to develop and recommend the implementation and management of safety and health programs.
  • You will inspect worksites, work operations, and conditions to record hazards and obtain evidence of regulatory violations through use of measurement devices and photography of unsafe and unhealthful working conditions.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying safety and occupational health principles to include the understanding of, reviewing and revising safety and occupational health instructions and rules and regulations. 2) Cleary and effectively articulating, presenting, and promoting a varied ideas and issues (to include sensitive or controversial topics) before a wide range of audiences. 3) Leading and/or participating in meetings to assess safety hazards. 4) Assisting with the development and conducting a comprehensive safety education program. 5) Reviewing equipment maintenance work processes and support equipment to include industrial work processes and construction standards to determine safety compliance.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.ORPossession of an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
