Job Description

Duties

  • Performs patient check-in.
  • Answers phones, takes messages for providers.
  • Provides routine pre-procedure instructions.
  • Contacts patients regarding appointment reminders.
  • Prepares patients for exams/procedures.
  • Curates patient medical records.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Tier 3 (Secret): This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Hepatitis B: Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Tuberculosis (TB): This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position may have occasional Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement(s).
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 30 pounds is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and / or Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS 04
General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience (1) in any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with patient check-in; patients regarding appointment reminders; Curates patient medical records AND six months of specialized experience which includes: Schedules patient appointments in a healthcare facility; Screens patients vital signs prior to the providers entrance; Provides post-procedure patient recovery care instructions; Reviews inventory and ensures supply needs are fulfilled;. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03).

Education: Two years of education above the high school level.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages.
