Job Description
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer to support an internal program within the Department of Defense (Department of War). This position is on-site in Newington, VA. This is a direct-hire opportunity supporting a mission-critical federal program focused on secure virtual desktop infrastructure modernization.
The Systems Engineer will design, administer, and optimize virtual desktop infrastructure solutions while supporting end-user computing initiatives across a highly regulated environment. This role works closely with systems, network, and cybersecurity teams to ensure secure, compliant, and scalable VDI operations.

Responsibilities for the Systems Engineer include:
- Design and optimize virtual desktop infrastructure solutions supporting a secure Department of War program.
- Administer and maintain Omnissa Horizon environments on VMware vSphere to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Develop and deploy VDI images, including testing, validation, and lifecycle management.
- Implement automation workflows, scripting, and image-management processes to streamline operations.
- Ensure compliance with security requirements, regulatory standards, and internal policies.
- Collaborate with systems, network, and cybersecurity teams to support end-user computing initiatives.
Required Qualifications for the Systems Engineer include:
- 8+ years of systems administration experience in enterprise environments.
- Experience supporting Windows/Linux operating systems.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN technologies.
- Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently in customer-facing environments.
- Bachelors Degree in related field.
- Security+ certification or higher.
- Active TS/SCI clearance with current eligibility.
Compensation for the Systems Engineer includes:
- Salary Range: $150,000 - $160,000 **depending on experience**
