Duties

As a MANAGEMENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST at the GS-0301-7/9/11 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Performing a wide range of administrative and management support functions, applying operational policies, maintaining and creating standard operating procedures (SOPs), and reviewing memos and correspondence for grammar and formatting to ensure smooth team operations.
  • Assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of major organizational programs and high-level engagements involving senior leadership, foreign delegations, and key external partners or stakeholders.
  • Conducting research and analysis on administrative and operational issues by gathering and reviewing various source materials to develop recommendations, prepare presentations, and brief senior leadership.
  • Providing assistance and facilitating communication across all levels of management regarding administrative requirements, goals, objectives, and plans to ensure mission accomplishment.
  • Working to help answer short-turn suspense tasks, and making them complete.
  • You may be required to travel for this position.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-07 grade level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service: Following established procedures and specific guidelines to perform assignments, using judgment to select the most appropriate guidelines, references, and procedures for application; referring deviations, problems, and unfamiliar situations not covered by instructions to the supervisor for assistance; regularly reviewing documents for grammatical accuracy and ensuring it follows correct agency formatting guidance. OR

B. You have one full year of graduate level education or meet the requirements for superior academic achievement OR

C. You have some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and you have more than one year but less than two years of education as described in B. You have computed the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.)

You may qualify at the GS-09 grade level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service: Applying knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methodology of a professional or administrative occupation; performing recurring assignments independently, supplemented by skill gained through job experience; handling problems and deviations in work assignments in accordance with instructions, policies, and accepted practices; analyzing various duties that involve different and unrelated processes and methods to determine the course of action; regularly reviewing documents for grammatical accuracy and ensuring it follows correct agency formatting guidance.

B. You have a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate level education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D., if related OR

C. You have some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and you have more than one year but less than two years of education as described in B. You have computed the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.)

You may qualify at the GS-11 grade level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service: Independently planning and coordinating a variety of management support functions, including applying administrative and operational policies and procedures; assisting in the planning, coordinating, and executing operations, programs, and events with senior officials; conducting analyses of issues concerning internal missions by extracting, gathering, reviewing, and analyzing source materials to assist in implementing administrative and operational changes; compiling, conceptualizing, and analyzing data to prepare presentations and brief senior leadership for executive-level events and dignitary visits. OR

B. You have a Ph.D. or equivalent graduate degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M, if related OR

C. You have some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and you have more than one year but less than two years of education as described in B. You have computed the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.)

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Incumbent must attain DoD Security Cooperation Workforce (SCW) Certification and complete related continuous learning requirements in accordance with the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2017, Title 10 United States Code, Section 384 and Security Cooperation Certification Program 2.0 requirements. Requirements for Proficiency Level 2 - At least 1 year of successful SC work experience with a performance appraisal rating of 3 or better. Incumbent must complete DoD SCW Practitioner level certification requirements within two years of entering the SC position. In addition, 60 hours of continuing education (CUE) every two years.
