Data Engineer
Remote
Blu Omega is seeking a Data Engineer to support a long-term federal program focused on financial management modernization and process automation within a Department of Defense environment. This individual will play a key role in maintaining, operating, enhancing, and expanding an existing automated valuation platform built within a mature Databricks environment using Python.
The successful candidate will support the ongoing transition from GAFS-R (General Accounting and Finance System - Reengineered) to DEAMS (Defense Enterprise Accounting and Management System), a multi-year modernization effort that will require updates to existing automation capabilities, development of new functionality, and integration of evolving financial management requirements.
In addition to automation and data engineering responsibilities, this role will support data visualization and reporting initiatives to provide meaningful metrics and operational insights to government stakeholders. The position offers the opportunity to identify and implement additional automation opportunities across financial management processes as program needs evolve.
This is a fully remote position supporting a Department of Defense customer.

The ideal candidate combines strong Python and Databricks technical skills with experience operating in a DoD environment. Candidates with exposure to financial management systems, data modernization efforts, and Palantir technologies will be particularly well-positioned for success. This individual should be comfortable supporting both hands-on development efforts and customer-facing reporting initiatives while contributing to long-term automation and modernization objectives.
Compensation
Salary Range: $120-$140K
Final compensation is based on technical skills, experience, education, certifications, and clearance.

Responsibilities
- Maintain, operate, troubleshoot, and enhance existing Python-based automation solutions within a Databricks environment.
- Develop new capabilities and enhancements to support the transition from GAFS-R to DEAMS.
- Design, build, and optimize data pipelines and automation workflows.
- Support data integration, transformation, and analysis activities across financial management systems.
- Develop dashboards, reports, and visualization solutions using Power BI and/or Tableau.
- Partner with government stakeholders to identify meaningful metrics and reporting requirements.
- Evaluate and implement automation and AI-enabled process improvements where appropriate.
- Support additional financial process automation efforts as mission requirements evolve.
- Document technical solutions, workflows, and operational procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- 8+ years of professional experience.
- Active DoD security clearance.
- Strong Python development experience.
- Experience working within Databricks.
- Experience developing dashboards and reporting solutions using Power BI and/or Tableau.
- Experience supporting Department of Defense programs or environments.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while supporting distributed teams.
Highly Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Palantir Foundry.
- Experience with financial management, financial systems, or fintech-related programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Advana.
- Experience with Envision.
- Experience supporting ERP, accounting, or general ledger modernization initiatives.
- Familiarity with DEAMS or other federal financial management systems.
