Portfolio Systems Engineer Lead

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Portfolio Systems Engineer Lead to support a company focused on advancing systems engineering maturity within a complex, production-scaling environment. This position is on-site in Westminster, CO. The Portfolio Systems Engineer Lead will establish and grow a Systems Engineering organization, standardize processes across program lifecycles, and drive cultural adoption of rigorous systems thinking across engineering and program leadership. This is a high-impact leadership role shaping how systems engineering enables mission success across a long-term DoD portfolio.

Responsibilities for the Portfolio Systems Engineer Lead include:

• Establish and mature a Systems Engineering (SE) organization from the ground up in a scaling production environment
• Develop and implement standardized SE templates, workflows, and processes across lifecycle phases (Pre-Award, EMD, LRIP)
• Champion Systems Thinking across multidisciplinary teams, educating Program Managers and Chief Engineers on SE responsibilities
• Implement and manage the Technical Baseline, including change control processes (ERB, CCB)
• Mentor and train junior and mid-level engineers in disciplined SE practices and methodologies

Required Qualifications for the Portfolio Systems Engineer Lead include:

• 10+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, including leadership or lead responsibilities
• Experience with MBSE, CONOPS development, and requirements management in regulated/technical environments
• Demonstrated ability to build organizations, lead teams, and drive cultural/process transformation
• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering, or related technical field (Master's preferred)
• Active Secret clearance and ability to obtain SAP eligibility

Compensation for the Portfolio Systems Engineer Lead include:

Salary Range: $260,000 depending on experience
