Test Engineer (Systems & Automation)
Location: Huntsville, AL (100% On-Site)
Clearance: Active Top Secret required
Overview
We are seeking a Test Engineer to support validation and quality assurance efforts for high-performance, mission-critical systems within a secure federal environment. This role focuses on designing and executing comprehensive testing strategies for complex software and integrated hardware systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and compliance with mission requirements.
The ideal candidate brings strong experience in both manual and automated testing, along with the ability to lead test planning, execution, and evaluation across large-scale systems.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and execute automated and manual test cases for complex software systems
Perform application and system-level testing, including validation of defects and root-cause analysis
Develop and maintain automated test frameworks and scripts to support ongoing testing efforts
Analyze test results and provide detailed reporting within ticketing and tracking systems
Support configuration, change, and release management processes across testing environments
Evaluate and implement test tools, frameworks, and automation strategies to improve efficiency
Design and execute system-level test and evaluation procedures to ensure requirements are met
Support testing of large-scale, high-performance systems, including immersive or data-intensive environments
Develop, manage, and execute test plans, scenarios, and system test events
Participate in integration activities involving software, hardware, and external systems
Advanced Responsibilities
Serve as a subject matter expert in test engineering, providing guidance on methodologies and tools
Support risk management and system evaluation activities, focusing on test design and execution strategies
Lead or contribute to test planning, scheduling, and coordination of resources and environments
Review and assess test plans and reports for completeness, effectiveness, and compliance with standards
Observe and evaluate acceptance testing activities to validate system readiness
Identify, document, and track defects and performance issues, providing actionable remediation guidance
Support formal reviews, audits, and briefings, presenting test results and system performance insights
Maintain and control multiple test environments and system baselines across development and testing phases
Required Qualifications
Active Top Secret clearance
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, OR equivalent experience
8+ years of experience in test engineering, quality assurance, or system validation roles
Strong experience with automated testing and test development frameworks
Experience performing system, integration, and acceptance testing for complex environments
Experience working with configuration management and release processes
Strong understanding of defect lifecycle management and root-cause analysis
Ability to analyze system requirements and translate them into effective testing strategies
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting large-scale, high-performance, or data-intensive systems
Familiarity with integration testing involving both software and hardware components
Experience working in secure, compliance-driven environments
Background supporting formal testing reviews, audits, or certification activities
Experience working in Agile or structured engineering environments
