Serco supports the U.S. Navy as a prime contractor for the Submarine Industrial Base, unifying submarine and surface vessel industrial activities to eliminate inefficiencies and improve coordination across acquisition, sustainment, and maintenance communities. We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled SQL Developer to support the design, development, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise database solutions. The ideal candidate will have experience working with relational and NoSQL database technologies, performing data integration activities, and supporting ongoing system enhancements and performance improvements. The SQL Developer will collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders, and data users to ensure data integrity, system performance, and reliable database operations across multiple environments.

This position will be a hybrid as you work from home and at the SIB office near the Washington Navy Yard as well as traveling when required to support the mission

This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance

Program Overview

Team Submarine's Submarine Program Offices are responsible for:
  • The acquisition of COLUMBIA Class Submarines, including R&D, design, construction, Test and Evaluation (T&E), and Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E). This program is a major defense acquisition effort with significant Congressional and OSD visibility.
  • The acquisition of VIRGINIA Class Submarines, including lifecycle management, T&E, LFT&E, and Fleet introduction, with an estimated lifecycle cost of $336B.
  • The SSN(X) program, responsible for next-generation fast attack submarine design and acquisition, emphasizing speed, stealth, payload capacity, and operational endurance.


In this role, you will:
  • Create, modify, and maintain relational database objects in third-normal form (3NF).
  • Develop and execute SQL queries, stored procedures, views, functions, and scripts.
  • Utilize SQL and NoSQL interfaces including MS SQL Server Management Studio, Hue/Impala, SQL*Plus, and related database tools.
  • Modify, load, delete, and query data within DataBricks and MS SQL Server environments.
  • Upload and integrate records from flat files, APIs, and cross-database schemas.
  • Perform data validation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for data-related issues.
  • Conduct database performance tuning and optimization activities to improve query efficiency and system responsiveness.
  • Respond to change requests, system enhancements, and bug fixes in a timely manner.
  • Support database deployments, testing, and migration activities.
  • Collaborate with development and business teams to gather requirements and implement technical solutions.
  • Maintain technical documentation related to database structures, processes, and procedures.


To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance (Post-Employment)
    • U.S Citizenship
  • Bachelor's degree
    • Or a High School Diploma with minimum 9 years of experience in:
      • Creating and modifying relational database objects in third-normal form (3NF)
      • Utilizing SQL and NoSQL interfaces such as MS SQL Server Management Studio, Hue/Impala, and SQL*Plus
      • Modifying, loading, deleting, and querying data within DataBricks and MS SQL Server
      • Uploading records from flat files, APIs, and across database schemas
      • Conducting database performance tuning
      • Responding to change requests, enhancements, and bug fixes
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in:
    • Creating and modifying relational database objects in third-normal form (3NF)
    • Utilizing SQL and NoSQL interfaces such as MS SQL Server Management Studio, Hue/Impala, and SQL*Plus
    • Modifying, loading, deleting, and querying data within DataBricks and MS SQL Server
    • Uploading records from flat files, APIs, and across database schemas
    • Conducting database performance tuning
    • Responding to change requests, enhancements, and bug fixes
  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts, normalization, and data integrity principles
  • Experience writing complex SQL queries and troubleshooting database issues
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Additional desired experience and skills:
  • Experience working in enterprise or government environments
  • Familiarity with ETL processes and data integration methodologies
  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies
  • Experience supporting cloud-based data platforms and big data environments
  • Exposure to version control and change management processes

  • May require collaboration with geographically dispersed teams
