Job Description
Gridiron IT is seeking an experienced Software Developer Lead to support mission critical financial and acquisition systems built on Momentum. In this role, you will lead technical planning, oversee development efforts, and guide modernization work across a complex COTS based ecosystem. You will work closely with developers, product owners, Momentum SMEs, system integrators, and leadership to design, implement, and sustain enhancements aligned with program needs.
This role requires strong leadership capabilities, deep technical problem solving skills, and experience coaching developers. You will help the team adopt best practices, ensure development quality, support CI/CD improvements, and contribute to the long term technical direction of the program.
You will need excellent communication skills, the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders, and strong organizational awareness to manage priorities in a fast paced environment.
Responsibilities
Momentum / COTS Leadership
Lead technical work within a Momentum environment.
Guide customization, integration, extension, and troubleshooting of Momentum modules and services.
Collaborate with Momentum SMEs on upgrade impacts, configuration, and interface alignment.
Software Engineering & Architecture
Design, develop, and maintain services and applications supporting program’s mission system.
Apply engineering best practices for reliability, maintainability, and performance.
Ensure secure coding practices consistent with DoD requirements.
Cloud, Containers, and DevSecOps
Build, deploy, and maintain applications running in OpenShift using Podman, containers, and orchestration patterns.
Oversee creation and maintenance of container images and deployment pipelines.
Troubleshoot and optimize containerized applications.
Support and develop integrations using WebMethods (strong plus).
Guide interface troubleshooting between Momentum and other enterprise systems.
Database & Data Layer
Work with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL)
Support data modeling, query tuning, and integration with Momentum data structures.
Team Leadership & Quality Assurance
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software developers of varying experience levels.
Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to standards.
Support root cause analysis and drive continuous improvement practices.
Establish and reinforce development processes, documentation standards, and agile rituals.
Required Qualifications
Typically requires bachelor’s degree or equivalent; and 7–10 years of related work experience.
Minimum 7-10 years software development experience with at least 3 years in a technical lead or engineering lead role.
Hands on experience with Momentum or similar complex COTS products.
Strong Java development experience, including microservices architectures.
Experience developing and deploying applications in OpenShift.
Experience with GitLab for source control and CI/CD.
Strong database skills (Oracle or comparable relational database experience required).
Ability to prioritize tasks and lead development efforts in a dynamic environment.
Strong communication, teamwork, and mentoring abilities.
Experience with WebMethods for system to system integrations.

Experience building, hardening, and deploying container images.
Experience with DevSecOps, system administration, or platform engineering.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $160,000 - $200,000/yr (Compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, skills, education, certifications, seniority, and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.)
