Position Overview
The Network Administrator supports the customer by managing and maintaining mission-critical network infrastructure across headquarters, regional facilities, and multiple data centers. This role performs Tier II and Tier III network hardware and software support and works directly with the Director of IT Operations and Services to optimize network performance and security posture. The position requires on-site presence at FirstNet Authority headquarters in Reston, VA a minimum of three days per week.
Essential Job Function
Design, implement, and manage network systems to ensure optimal performance and security.
Monitor, manage, and optimize LAN/WAN performance; troubleshoot network problems and outages to minimize downtime.
Maintain firewalls, routing and switching configurations, ACLs, network segmentation, QoS, and network access control (NAC).
Confirm DNS/DHCP integrity, maintain IPAM updates, and coordinate certificate lifecycle management.
Patch network devices, maintain standardized configurations, and backup/restore device configurations.
Administer and manage Cisco TACACS Service and Network Access Control, including endpoint posture assessment and remediation.
Document and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Network Operations team using the government’s preferred file storage platform.
Conduct daily health check monitoring of network infrastructure and its services.
Provide network transport and network security for systems located on-site, at regional facilities, and at multiple data centers.
Support remediation of security and other vulnerabilities in accordance with the IT Plan of Action and Milestones (POAM) process.
Collaborate with the Director of IT Operations and Services on network optimization and scheduling upgrades.
Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and other IT staff.
Minimum Qualifications
5 or more years of experience in enterprise networking (Cisco, Palo Alto, or Juniper preferred).
Expertise in routing and switching (BGP/OSPF), firewalls, VPN, wireless, NAC, and DNS/DHCP/IPAM.
Experience with network monitoring and observability tools and configuration management.
Demonstrated experience managing LAN/WAN services across multiple sites to confirm continuous availability and optimal performance.
Experience overseeing Microsoft Azure Cloud Services, including cloud resource management and maintenance of security and performance.
Proficiency with network monitoring tools to assess health, performance, and security posture across enterprise infrastructure.
Strong documentation, incident response, and change management discipline.
Active Secret clearance required; must complete Department of Commerce PIV and Common Access Card (CAC) requirements per Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12).
Desired Qualifications
CCNA or CCNP certification.
CompTIA Network+ certification.
Palo Alto Networks CNSA or PCNSE certification.
Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certification.
Experience supporting mission-critical network infrastructure in a public safety or federal government environment.
