POSITION SUMMARY
ASI is seeking a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Systems Engineer to support a large-scale, complex engineering program. This position may be filled at multiple levels based on the candidate’s experience, technical background, and demonstrated MBSE capabilities. The selected candidate will support the development and implementation of MBSE practices across the system lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture development, interface definition, verification planning, and digital engineering integration.
The ideal candidate combines strong systems engineering fundamentals with MBSE expertise and hands-on experience using SysML-based modeling tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler. The candidate will work across multidisciplinary teams to establish and maintain system architecture, ensure end-to-end traceability, and support program execution through a robust digital engineering environment. Depending on experience level, the candidate may support or lead technical modeling, architecture, and systems engineering activities across multidisciplinary teams.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities, however this role is expected to mentor junior engineers and support the growth of MBSE capabilities across the organization, as applicable.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
U.S. Citizenship Required: As a federal contractor supporting the U.S. warfighter, it is required that all employees in this role be United States citizens in compliance with government contract and security requirements.
Background Check: Must be able to successfully pass an initial background screening.
Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. The selected candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information, as required by the position.
Work Schedule Flexibility: Occasional overtime and alternate shifts may be required to meet customer schedules, critical deadlines, or program milestones.
Travel Requirements: Must be able and willing to travel domestically and, on occasion, internationally to customer sites, partner locations, or project meetings in support of contract objectives.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Typically, employees sit comfortably to do their work, interspersed by brief periods of standing, walking, bending carrying papers and books, and extensive periods requiring the use of computer terminals to accomplish work objectives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily performed in an office environment consisting of offices and cubicles with low to moderate noise and bright or dim lighting. The work is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as external customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, maintain, and manage system architecture models using SysML and MBSE methodologies including structural, behavioral, interface, and requirements traceability views
- Create and maintain system views that support requirements traceability, architecture definition, interface management, and verification planning.
- Support requirements analysis, decomposition, allocation, traceability and verification activities throughout the system lifecycle and across multidisciplinary teams.
- Collaborate with software, hardware, test, cybersecurity, and operations teams to ensure system-level integration and consistency.
- Support system integration, verification, validation, technical reviews, and engineering assessments.
- Support digital engineering initiatives, including integration with requirements management, configuration management, and product lifecycle management (PLM) tools.
- Conduct trade studies, architecture evaluations, risk assessments, and technical analyses to support engineering decisions.
- Develop and implement MBSE modeling standards, practices, and governance processes appropriate to program needs and experience level.
- Communicate technical concepts, model results, and engineering recommendations to stakeholders and program leadership.
- Establish MBSE modeling standards, workflows, and governance processes as applicable to experience level

- Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of systems engineering or MBSE experience.
MBSE II
- Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of systems engineering or MBSE experience.
- Demonstrated ability to perform systems engineering activities with limited supervision.
MBSE III
- Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline.
- 8+ years of systems engineering or MBSE experience.
- Demonstrated technical leadership experience supporting complex engineering programs.
- Ability to lead architecture development, technical reviews, and cross-functional engineering efforts.
Responsibilities, technical authority, and scope of work will be commensurate with experience level.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience developing system models using Cameo Systems Modeler or similar SysML-based MBSE tools.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering lifecycle processes, requirements management, traceability, and verification and validation methodologies.
- Experience supporting engineering activities within a multidisciplinary development environment.
- Experience working in cross-functional engineering environments
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience implementing or supporting MBSE on defense, aerospace, simulation, training, or other complex engineering programs.
- Knowledge of Digital Engineering frameworks, strategies, digital thread, and digital thread concepts.
- Experience and/or familiarity of integrating MBSE tools with requirements management and PLM environments such as DOORS Next, Polarion, Tor PLM integration environments.
- Familiarity with DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF), UAF, or related architecture frameworks.
- INCOSE ASEP, CSEP, or ESEP certification.
- Active DoD security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one.
