Job Description

Duties

  • You will serve as a team leader for those activities requiring expertise in highly complex and sensitive surveys in high hazard workplaces
  • You will perform all phases of the industrial hygiene program as specified by Department of Defense (DoD)
  • You will interpret policy on own initiative in terms of established objectives
  • You will evaluate new work processes and materials used at the activity for which information on hazards is lacking
  • You will engage in an extensive literature search in order to evaluate survey findings
  • You will develop and provide guidelines to workplace monitors so that they may perform their work correctly

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Recognizing and evaluating occupational health hazards, including those for which the nature and extent of hazard is not completely understood.
  • Devising a variety of control measures, including ventilation, shielding, material substitution, and change in work procedures. Isolation, education, personal protective devices and management of waste material.
  • Evaluating proposed new work processes and/or materials and to recommend measures to minimize health hazards
  • Using industrial hygiene sampling techniques and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with personal computers, MS Office Suite software products (e.g., Word, Excel, and/or Access),

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess.
  • A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
  • A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
  • Certification from the (ABIH).
