Job Description

Duties

  • You will work in a team environment for the Ordnance Test and Evaluation Division to perform nondestructive testing, equipment and facility maintenance, and other tasks as assigned.
  • You will lead radiographic operations, (i.e., x-ray ordnance and energetic items, analyzing imaging data, and ensuring compliance w/safety protocols.)
  • You will collaborate with engineers and scientists, providing technical guidance, and maintaining radiographic equipment.
  • You will support a variety of tests/inspection, physical dimensioning, x-ray equipment maintenance, ordnance handling, ordnance hauling, and the use of heavy equipment and cranes.
  • You will be responsible for interpreting x-ray images and documenting the results.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You must obtain and maintain an Ordnance Handler certificate / Ordnance Certifications.
  • Certification in radiographic testing and extensive experience with energetic materials are required.
  • The position may require overtime, travel, and will require working both indoors and outdoors.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the DT-02 (GS 5-8 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate some or all of the following:
  • Capturing technical, industrial, or scientific imagery using professional still photography, HD video, and/or high-speed videography equipment.
  • Setting up remote camera triggering, camera control systems, and equipment protection in testing environments.
  • Using post-production software to process, analyze, and edit photographic data to produce finished technical data packages (e.g., composite videos, annotated stills).
  • Performing routine equipment maintenance and assisting with the installation of video, surveillance, or basic network communication systems to support field testing operations.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided the education demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position :

GS-7 - Successfully completed two full years of graduate level education or master's degree that is directly related to the position being filled

GS-9 - Successfully completed one full years of graduate level education or master's degree that is directly related to the position being filled

One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Additional information

  • The candidate will support a variety of tests including x-ray radiography, computed radiography, computed tomography, flash radiography, real time radiography, x-ray image interpretation, leak testing, visual inspection, boroscopic inspection, physical dimensioning, x-ray equipment maintenance, ordnance handling, ordnance hauling, and the use of heavy equipment and cranes.
  • Good oral and written communication skills are required to discuss testing requirements, coordinate schedules, perform budgetary duties, and support briefings with test management, customers, and/or other stakeholders as necessary.
  • You will provide inputs to SOPs on current tests/operations and will support proper integration of future test procedures as required.
If not already a radiographer in accordance with NAVSEA S0420-AA-RAD-010, the candidate will be expected to start as a radiation worker and progress to assistant radiographer and radiographer within two years. Radiographers are also certified as medically qualified, in accordance with NAVMED P-5055
