About The Role
Peraton is hiring a Solutions Architect will support the design and delivery of mission-critical capabilities within the National Background Investigation Services (NBIS) program. This is a remote role.
NBIS is the federal government's enterprise platform for personnel vetting, adjudication, continuous vetting, and trusted workforce modernization. The Solutions Architect serves as the technical bridge between mission stakeholders, product management, engineering teams, cybersecurity personnel, and enterprise architects. This role is responsible for translating business and mission requirements into practical, secure, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions.

Target Salary Range: $104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

About The Role

Responsibilities:
Solution Design & Delivery
- Lead solution architecture efforts for major initiatives, epics, and features within NBIS.
- Translate mission, business, and user requirements into detailed technical designs.
- Produce architecture artifacts including solution diagrams, integration designs, data flows, API specifications, and technical decision records.
- Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to refine requirements and identify technical impacts.
- Support backlog refinement, sprint planning, and Program Increment (PI) planning activities.
- Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards and program objectives.
- Focuses on delivering specific mission capabilities and business outcomes.
- Works closely with product owners, users, and development teams.
- Owns solution design for specific initiatives, epics, and features.
- Thinks in terms of implementing capabilities that solve business problems.
- Design and implement AI-enabled capabilities that improve workforce efficiency and mission outcomes.
- Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to identify high-value AI use cases.
- Define architectures supporting:
- Generative AI
- Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)
- Intelligent search
- Workflow automation
- Document analysis
- Decision-support systems
- Ensure AI implementations meet Responsible AI, privacy, security, and governance requirements.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and recommend adoption strategies.
- Design cloud-native solutions using microservices, APIs, event-driven architectures, and modern integration patterns.
- Define integration approaches between NBIS and external government systems.
- Develop secure and scalable API strategies.
- Support modernization efforts that reduce technical debt and improve maintainability.
- Guide implementation of data exchange, messaging, and workflow orchestration solutions.
- Design solutions deployed within AWS GovCloud and approved federal cloud environments.
- Collaborate with DevSecOps teams to ensure automated deployment, testing, and monitoring capabilities are incorporated into solution designs.
- Promote Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation best practices.
- Support performance optimization, resiliency, observability, and cost management efforts.
- Incorporate security and privacy requirements into solution designs from inception.
- Ensure solutions comply with Zero Trust principles, federal cybersecurity requirements, and program security controls.
- Partner with cybersecurity and compliance teams during architecture reviews and security assessments.
- Support ATO activities through technical documentation and solution reviews.
Qualifications
What you'll do:
- Education: 8 years of experience with BS/BA degree, 6 years with a MS/MA, or 4 years with a PhD.
- Clearance: Active Secret clearance.
- Experience with cloud-native architectures and AWS services.
- Experience designing REST, GraphQL, and event-driven integrations.
- Strong understanding of application architecture, data architecture, and integration patterns.
- Experience working within Agile or SAFe delivery environments.
- Experience producing architecture diagrams, technical specifications, and solution documentation.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience supporting DCSA, DoD, Intelligence Community, or other federal agencies.
- Experience with personnel vetting, case management, investigative systems, or identity-related platforms.
- Experience with AI/ML, Generative AI, RAG architectures, vector databases, and AI governance frameworks.
- Experience with AWS GovCloud, ECS, EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, Aurora PostgreSQL, and serverless architectures.
- Experience with GitLab CI/CD, Terraform, Kubernetes, and DevSecOps practices.
- Experience with Zero Trust and ICAM architectures.
- AWS Solutions Architect, Security, Developer, or related certifications.
