Job Description

Duties

(1) Provides direction and advice to resolve problems on aircraft ordnance and electronic systems on fighter aircraft. On a regular and recurring basis, leads Aircraft Ordnance Systems Mechanics, WG-6652-11, in diagnosing malfunctions, troubleshooting, and evaluating electronic system tests to determine the disassembly necessary for repair or replacement of parts.

(2) Monitors work of assigned personnel, sets the work pace, conveys work assignments, and ensures that materials, tools, equipment, and stock are available. Coordinates and works with weapon system mechanics and specialists performing journey level work.

(3) Ensures assigned personnel are fully utilized and work is accomplished in accordance with established time frames and priorities. Checks work in progress and/or upon completion for compliance with supervisor's instructions, appropriate technical orders, etc. Serves as a technical advisor by answering questions regarding appropriate procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Assures that all safety, housekeeping, security, and other environmental rules and procedures are followed in the shop and the flight line.

(4) Advises the supervisor of overall work operations, status and progress of work, causes for delays, problems encountered, and individual performance (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). As requested by the supervisor, provides functional planning for the flight line maintenance activities. On a daily basis, recommends adjustments in work schedules to provide optimum utilization of personnel in support of functional requirements.

(5) Routinely works with and alongside journey-level counterparts.

(6) Performs other duties as assigned.

  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military grade in the Alabama Air National Guard. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicant's ability to repair malfunctions of ordnance equipment and components. Ability to use sketches, electrical diagrams, technical specifications, and engineering drawings. Experience which demonstrates skill in the use of test equipment to make electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic checks.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience demonstrating the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related to the repair function of this occupational series. Must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment. The ability to guide others in work related directly to this occupational series.

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge and appropriate training in functions of inspection, maintenance, installation, modification and repair of air munitions launch, release, suspension systems, R/F electronic countermeasures system and aircraft gun systems. Comprehensive knowledge and skill in troubleshooting procedures, diagnosing problems and determining corrective action in the aircraft ordnance systems.

- Skill and knowledge to troubleshoot, repair, modify, or remove equipment and components such as gun systems, bomb racks, pylons, and the Ammunition Loading Systems (UALS/ALS).

- Knowledge and ability to interpret and trace schematic, logic and wiring diagrams and use a wide variety of test, measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). Ability to perform algebraic and trigonometric formulas to solve work related problems.

- Knowledge and skilled in the operation, interrelationship and interdependent aspects of each electronic system and subsystems within the total complex aircraft electronic system(s) within fighter aircraft. Extensive knowledge of each system's prerequisites, sequential events, and logic flow and signal input/output requirements for successful target acquisition, lock-on, launch and delivery of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons.

- Knowledge of the principals of digital and analog circuits, synchro-electro-mechanical devices, solid-state devices theory, digital techniques /servo operation and circuit theory.

- Comprehensive knowledge and skill to exercise judgment and to apply electronic theories and practices to identify, isolate, and repair malfunctions in complex electronic systems or individual subsystems of an electronic system.

- Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and optical principals.

- Knowledge of assigned computer systems used to document job data and personal computers (PC) to operate and run test equipment.

- Current certification in high reliability soldering techniques and electrostatic discharge protective techniques is required.

- Knowledge of the Technical Order Distribution System and other technical publications and directives relating to work requirements.
