Job Description

Duties

  • You will respond to and oversee spill response team actions.
  • You will serve as point of contact for environmental regulatory visits and inspections of' assigned area or responsibility.
  • You will administer and coordinate site Environmental Protection Programs.
  • You will initiate and perform studies to determine the extent that Navy operations may impact the quality of' the environment.
  • You will recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • You will keep abreast of new/proposed developments in the field or environmental protection by conducting research literature in the field to include regulatory/legislative issuances.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications

For GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Reviewing technical data on environmental activities and to develop recommendations for a course of action; 2) Evaluating work practices to determine compliance with environmental protection laws and regulations; and 3) Recommending changes to control or eliminate potential or existing environmental hazards or violations.

For GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Solving problems using established policies; 2) Planning, implementing, or monitoring environmental programs and services that are compliant with Federal, state, and local requirements in regards to hazardous waste disposal, air compliance, water compliance, containment, or usage; and 3) Researching environmental issues to implement appropriate changes.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

For GS-09:
You may meet minimum qualifications if you have:

A master's or equivalent graduate degree

OR

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR

an LL.B. or J.D., if related

OR

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

For GS-11: You may meet minimum qualifications if you have:

a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR

an LL.M., if related

OR

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.
