BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems (SMS) is seeking an EO/IR Test Engineer to support integration, verification, and validation of advanced Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) systems and payloads. This role focuses on planning and executing test activities across development, integration, environmental, and production environments to ensure system performance meets requirements and supports successful transition from development into production.
The EO/IR Test Engineer works closely with systems, software, hardware, optical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to develop and execute comprehensive test programs, analyze performance data, troubleshoot anomalies, and verify compliance to mission and customer requirements in a complex multidisciplinary environment.
The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.
What You'll Do:
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Full-Time Salary Range: $97008 - $164914

What You'll Do:
- Support execution of system integration and test activities for EO/IR payloads and sensor systems.
- Ensure alignment between requirements, mission needs, and verified system performance.
- Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and test campaigns supporting system verification and validation.
- Perform subsystem and system-level testing in laboratory, integration, environmental, and field test environments.
- Conduct optical performance characterization including image quality, resolution, sensitivity, signal-to-noise ratio, alignment, calibration, and tracking performance assessments.
- Collect, process, and analyze test data to evaluate EO/IR system performance.
- Support integration activities across hardware, software, firmware, optics, and mechanical components.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and document test anomalies and system issues.
- Support verification of system requirements through test, inspection, demonstration, and analysis methods.
- Assist in development of automated test tools, scripts, and data analysis methods.
- Collaborate with Systems Engineering teams to ensure test activities maintain traceability to requirements and verification objectives.
- Support development and maintenance of MBSE artifacts used to define system behavior, interfaces, requirements traceability, and verification planning.
- Support verification planning activities within MBSE environments, ensuring linkage between requirements, test procedures, and verification results.
- Document test results and contribute to technical reports, verification matrices, and technical review artifacts.
- Support preparation and execution of formal test events, technical reviews, and customer demonstrations.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 4 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active Secret security clearance is required.
- 4 or more years of experience in test engineering, integration, verification, validation, or related technical roles.
- Experience supporting integration and test activities on complex EO/IR, imaging, sensing, aerospace, or defense systems.
- Experience developing and executing test procedures and test campaigns.
- Familiarity with requirements verification and validation processes.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in laboratory and integration environments.
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting technical performance data.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience with EO/IR payloads, imaging systems, tracking systems, targeting systems, or remote sensing technologies.
- Experience supporting optical alignment, calibration, and characterization activities.
- Familiarity with optical test equipment, infrared test equipment, collimators, blackbody sources, target simulators, environmental chambers, and imaging analysis tools.
- Experience with MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, or equivalent.
- Experience developing automated test systems and scripting solutions.
- Experience with MBSE methodologies and tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler.
- Experience supporting environmental qualification testing, thermal-vacuum testing, vibration testing, and system-level verification events.
