Cyber Security Analyst Tier 1 (SOC Analyst)

Location: Rockville, MD (Hybrid)
Shift: 2nd, 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM or 3rd, 8:00 PM - 6:00 AM (based on staffing needs)
Pay: $41.50/hr W2 OR $49/hr 1099
Contract: 6 months

Overview
We are seeking a Cyber Security Analyst Tier 1 to support a Security Operations Center (SOC) environment focused on monitoring, analyzing, and responding to security events across enterprise systems and networks. This role is ideal for junior cybersecurity professionals with SOC experience or recent graduates with relevant cybersecurity certifications looking to grow within incident response and threat monitoring operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor, analyze, and respond to security alerts and incidents generated from:
  • SIEM platforms
  • Firewalls
  • Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)
  • Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS)
  • Endpoint Security Solutions
  • Network Access Control (NAC) systems
• Investigate security events and determine appropriate response actions
• Perform log analysis and event correlation activities
• Escalate security incidents in accordance with established procedures
• Document investigations, findings, and remediation actions
• Support ongoing monitoring of enterprise security posture
• Collaborate with senior analysts and cybersecurity teams during incident investigations
• Assist with identifying indicators of compromise (IOCs) and suspicious activity

Required Qualifications

• 1-3 years of Security Operations Center (SOC) experience OR recent college graduate with cybersecurity certifications
• Experience working with Windows, Linux, or UNIX operating systems
• Experience with Splunk or similar SIEM platforms
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly
• U.S. Citizenship required
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with IDS log analysis
• Experience using packet capture and network analysis tools
• Knowledge of common protocols and services including:
  • FTP
  • HTTP
  • SSH
  • SMB
  • LDAP
• One or more cybersecurity certifications preferred:
  • CEH
  • CISSP
  • GCIH
  • GCIA
  • GPEN
  • Other equivalent cybersecurity certifications
