Arcfield is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Sr. Scientist to serve as a senior technical advisor and lead advanced scientific research and development efforts in support of NSWC Crane's mission needs. In this role, you will conduct high-complexity investigations within relevant life or physical science domains, translate scientific discoveries into actionable technical solutions, and facilitate the integration of emerging technologies into operational contexts. The ideal candidate has a strong research background, hands-on experience with applied science within DoD/Navy programs, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to align scientific outputs with mission objectives.

This is the projected compensation range for this position. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories. In addition, Arcfield invests in its employees beyond just compensation. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead high-impact scientific investigations, analyzing complex problems in life or physical science domains to drive actionable technical recommendations.
- Design and execute rigorous experimental methods, analyze advanced datasets, and produce well-documented, defensible technical conclusions.
- Collaborate with engineering, testing, and program teams to transition scientific research and findings into deployable mission technologies.
- Provide thought leadership and technical insight to guide the development of innovative solutions for demanding operational problems.
- Communicate technical findings and research outcomes through detailed reports, technical exchanges, and leadership briefings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior staff, fostering a culture of scientific excellence and innovation.
Qualifications
Required:
- BS 12-15, MS 10-13, PhD 10+ in a relevant field such as Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline (per eCRAFT Data Scientist III labor category).
- Must possess an active DoD Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain a TS clearance.
- 10+ years of professional experience in life or physical sciences, with a proven ability to conduct and lead advanced research efforts.
- Demonstrated success delivering applied scientific research for DoD/Navy programs and integrating research findings into actionable technical solutions.
- Expertise in experimental design, statistical analysis, and advanced dataset evaluation.
- Strong understanding of scientific problem definition, solution design, and results-driven research.
- Familiarity with transitioning scientific outputs into operational systems and collaborating with engineering, test, and program teams.
- Exceptional technical communication skills with the ability to distill complex findings for reports, peer-level discussions, and executive audiences.
- Proven experience providing leadership on high-impact tasks and mentoring junior scientists on scientific and technical initiatives.
- Active DoD Secret clearance (or the ability to obtain one) required due to support for classified programs and facilities.
Preferred:
- Leadership experience in applied scientific research efforts supporting DoD or Navy missions (e.g., electronic warfare, sensors, weapons systems, tactical operations).
- Knowledge of technology transition processes and experience with emerging technology adoption in operational use cases.
- Familiarity with secure research protocols, compliance requirements, and scientific activities in classified environments.
- Strong record of publishing peer-reviewed scientific papers, presenting technical findings, and informing program strategy.
