Systems Engineer - Systems Safety (Level 3 / Level 4)
Senior Level | Active Secret Clearance Required | $100,000 - $130,000 | Travel: As Required | Onsite: Huntsville, AL
Support mission-critical missile defense systems-developing systems engineering and system safety solutions that ensure the Ground Weapon System (GWS) meets operational, certification, verification, and safety requirements in support of the Missile Defense Agency's national defense mission.
A Day in the Life - What you'll do
Develop systems engineering and system safety products supporting the Ground Weapon System (GWS) program.
Perform requirements decomposition, allocation, traceability, and management activities across multiple levels of system architecture.
Develop certification, verification, and compliance packages supporting operational, flight test, and ground test activities.
Conduct comprehensive system safety analyses throughout the system lifecycle.
Support Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), and Operating & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA) activities.
Evaluate system risks and develop mitigation strategies in accordance with MIL-STD-882E requirements.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure safety, performance, and mission assurance objectives are achieved.
Support requirements verification and validation activities across software, hardware, and integrated weapon system components.
Develop technical documentation, engineering artifacts, and safety assessments supporting program execution.
Participate in Agile development activities supporting systems engineering and safety initiatives.
Coordinate with government stakeholders, customers, and cross-functional engineering teams to support mission objectives.
Contribute to the design, development, integration, testing, and certification of missile defense capabilities.

- Level 3: 5 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or PhD with 1 year of experience
- Level 4: 8 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 6 years of experience, or PhD with 4 years of experience
- Active DoD Secret security clearance required at time of application
- Level 3: Minimum 2 years of experience with requirements decomposition, allocation, and management
- Level 4: Minimum 4 years of experience with requirements decomposition, allocation, and management
- Working knowledge of systems engineering principles, processes, and lifecycle methodologies
- Experience with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS
- Experience developing certification, compliance, and verification packages across multiple levels of requirements
- Experience supporting operational, flight test, and ground test verification activities
- Experience developing systems engineering and system safety products within Agile development environments
- System Safety Engineering experience conducting analyses in accordance with MIL-STD-882E
- Experience performing Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), and Operating & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA)
- Experience supporting Missile Defense Agency (MDA) or Missile Defense Weapon System programs
- Ability to work onsite in a collaborative engineering environment
- Strong written, verbal, analytical, and technical communication skills
- Experience supporting requirement verification activities using formal test methodologies
- Knowledge of Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) systems and architectures
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification
- Experience independently planning, organizing, and executing technical efforts in customer-focused environments
- Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and associated tools such as CAMEO or MagicDraw
- INCOSE Systems Engineering certification or equivalent professional systems engineering credential
- Experience supporting large-scale defense acquisition or weapon system development programs
- Knowledge of missile defense system integration, test, and operational deployment activities
