Position Overview
Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support a customer providing incident response services to civilian agencies and critical infrastructure organizations. This role will lead the establishment and operation of a Chip-Off Forensics Lab, providing technical expertise in hardware forensics, chip extraction, embedded systems analysis, and low-level device investigations.
The ideal candidate will combine deep electrical engineering expertise with hands-on experience in hardware forensics, reverse engineering, and data recovery from compromised network-edge devices and embedded systems.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead the design, setup, and operation of a Chip-Off Forensics Lab
• Develop and document chip-off forensics workflows, procedures, and best practices
• Conduct forensic analysis of network-edge devices, embedded systems, and proprietary hardware
• Perform chip extraction, PCB analysis, data recovery, and hardware-level investigations
• Analyze flash memory, EEPROMs, and other storage components for forensic purposes
• Specify, evaluate, and procure laboratory equipment and forensic tools
• Train analysts on chip-off forensics techniques and laboratory procedures
• Support investigations involving compromised hardware, embedded malware, and systems lacking EDR visibility
• Document technical findings, methodologies, and recommendations

Mandatory Skills
• U.S. Citizenship
• Active TS/SCI Clearance
• Ability to obtain DHS Suitability
• 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, hardware design, or related disciplines
• Expert knowledge of PCB design, circuit analysis, and digital electronics
• Experience with chip extraction, hardware forensics, and data recovery techniques
• Proficiency with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and other electronic test equipment
• Knowledge of embedded systems, memory technologies, microcontrollers, and SoCs
• Experience with reverse engineering proprietary hardware systems
• Strong soldering and desoldering skills for chip-level analysis and extraction
• Excellent documentation, analytical, and technical writing skills

Preferred Skills
• Experience supporting federal cybersecurity, digital forensics, or incident response programs
• Knowledge of firmware analysis and reverse engineering techniques
• Experience with network-edge devices, IoT systems, and OT environments
• Familiarity with JTAG, SPI, I2C, and other hardware debugging interfaces
• Understanding of malware embedded within hardware or firmware
• Experience training technical personnel on forensic methodologies
• Knowledge of EDR limitations within embedded device environments

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
• Master's degree or Ph.D. preferred
