Become a part of something IMPACT-ful! Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nation's defense against ballistic missile attacks.

The GMD Weapon System (GWS) processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize the inbound ballistic missile threat, plans the best defensive solution, and launches the intercepting missiles to negate the threat.

The Work

The Automated Software Test Engineer will support the Missile Defense Agency's GMD Weapon System program by developing, maintaining, and executing automated test capabilities used to verify mission-critical software functionality. The engineer will work with software development, systems engineering, integration, cybersecurity, and test teams to ensure software products meet technical, program, and customer requirements.

Responsibilities may include:

• Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated software test scripts, test procedures, and test utilities in support of GWS software verification.

• Analyze software requirements, system requirements, and design documentation to determine appropriate test coverage.

• Develop automated tests using tools, scripting languages, or programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, shell scripting, or similar technologies.

• Support software integration, regression testing, functional testing, performance testing, and verification activities.

• Identify, document, troubleshoot, and support resolution of software defects and test failures.

• Work closely with software engineers, systems engineers, product owners, scrum masters, and test leads to clarify requirements and improve testability.

• Support test planning, test readiness reviews, formal test events, and customer-witnessed verification activities as needed.

• Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, test procedures, and test results.

• Develop or improve automation frameworks, test tools, data analysis scripts, and reporting capabilities.

• Support Agile team activities, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, retrospectives, and test status reporting.

• Use configuration management, version control, and issue-tracking tools to manage test artifacts and defect reports.

• Analyze test results and communicate technical findings, risks, and issues to team leads and program leadership.

• Contribute to continuous improvement of software test processes, automation coverage, and verification efficiency.

• Ensure test products comply with program engineering standards, quality expectations, and cybersecurity requirements.
