The MITRE EUCOM and AFRICOM Regional Operations Department (N551) is seeking energetic and talented professionals to join our team working across our sponsors in Europe, Africa, and the US to tackle complex problems. We work to solve the most challenging international security problems across Europe and Africa by strategically partnering with the Department of War to apply advanced capabilities and technology to real world operational needs in the near term and strategically positioning to address longer term critical challenges.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Lead and oversee MITRE's work for US Africa Command (USAFRICOM) in Stuttgart, Germany. Qualified candidates will have a strong defense background with demonstrated technical experience in advancing joint command and control, mission planning capabilities, and operational experimentation, prototyping, and test & evaluation. The project leader will partner closely with the USAFRICOM Intelligence Directorate (J2) project leader operating as a unified team in support of USAFRICOM. In addition, the project leader must work collaboratively with an integrated, federated MITRE team demonstrating strong teamwork and cooperation. The selected candidate will be expected to work closely with military and civilian government stakeholders from across the command to address their critical mission needs, document operational needs, identify relevant emerging technologies, and develop advanced solutions to address USAFRICOM mission challenges.

Selected candidates will demonstrate the following:
- Strategic Leadership. Define and guide strategic objectives and daily execution of support to USAFRICOM. Ensure FFRDC appropriate impactful tasks are defined, and meaningful data driven products are developed in a timely and relevant manner. Proactively and closely partner with MITRE Intel Division (J2) leadership to deliver seamless, holistic, and strategic impact to USAFRICOM. Actively collaborate with other projects supporting related sponsors to ensure maximum value and impact across MITRE's sponsors.
- Senior Sponsor Experience. Comfortably and respectfully engage with both US and foreign nations' senior military leaders and engineers as well as commercial executives and managers.
- Domain / Technical competence. Demonstrate strong familiarity and skill in one or more of the following areas: (1) Joint Command and Control, including Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2); (2) C4 Enterprise Modernization; (3) Resilient Communications; (4) Defense Security Cooperation; (5) Non-kinetic Operations; (6) Current or Future Operations; or (7) Geopolitical Competition (GPC).
- Interpersonal skills. Deliver strong leadership and develop a team that partners closely with both senior military leaders and action officers to identify operational and engineering challenges, potential solutions, and communicate project goals and impacts clearly and effectively.
- Collaboration. Cultivate a project team environment that develops a robust network of MITRE and other professional connections to engage and collaborate with engineers and planners, subject matter experts, international program (foreign military sales) specialists, and defense acquisition professionals. Continue to leverage a pipeline of MITRE technical expertise from MITRE Technology and Engineering, capabilities from the MITRE Platforms, and transitioned R&D from the MIP into project delivery.
- Flexibility. Be able to modify and alter course as the environment and sponsor priorities shift. Understand the power of reach-back and be an effective conduit to bring the talent forward to execute at the right time.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a US Department of War security clearance.
- Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, such as Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, Computer), Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields; or BA in International Relations, International Security, Management, or similar fields; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Demonstrated previous team leadership experience
- Prior experience with US Department of War systems of systems integration
- Effective and influential oral communications skills
- Strong written communications skills
- Active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
- U.S. Citizenship required
- This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in related field
- Five years' experience in military Joint Command and Control
- Familiarity with Department of War military missions
- Familiarity with MITRE project management processes, capabilities, and associated tools
- Demonstrated capability for strategic planning and ability to provide actionable plans to government sponsors
- Additional clearances: NATO SECRET
- Top Secret/SCI Clearance preferred
