Location: Houston, TX (100% Onsite)
Length: 12+ Month Contract
Job Description:
We are seeking an RF & Communication Mission System Engineer to support a lunar rover mission communication system from test planning through mission operations. This role will focus on understanding the end-to-end onboard communication system, including Direct-to-Earth communication using low-gain omnidirectional and high-gain phased array antennas through a deep-space communications network.
The engineer will support RF compatibility testing, communications system verification, crypto key loading activities, testbed and vehicle functional testing, and mission operations preparation. The role requires strong technical judgment, the ability to troubleshoot complex communication issues, and the maturity to advise program and engineering leadership in support of a successful mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop a detailed understanding of the rover onboard communication system and mission communication parameters.
• Support planning and execution of RF compatibility testing with a deep-space communications network.
• Support communication system testing between the vehicle, ground test assets, and mission operations infrastructure.
• Assist with crypto key loading activities as required.
• Evaluate lunar surface communication challenges, including low-angle multipath propagation, and help identify mitigation approaches.
• Participate as a member of the test team and transition into mission operations support.
• Develop test procedures and support test console operations for testbed and vehicle testing.
• Develop operations procedures, console products, and related mission support documentation.
• Support troubleshooting, anomaly investigation, and issue resolution during testing and operations preparation.
• Work onsite with test and operations teams supporting functional testing.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 7+ years of relevant experience required.
• Experience with RF systems, communication systems, or mission communication architecture.
• Ability to understand and support end-to-end communication system performance.
• Experience developing test procedures, operations procedures, or technical support products.
• Experience supporting test console, operations console, testbed, or vehicle-level testing preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting, anomaly investigation, and technical problem-solving skills.
