Job Description

Duties

  • You will plan, manage, and administer a state-of-the-art safety and occupational health (SOH) program for CNSWG-2.
  • You will keep abreast of current and proposed technical and managerial developments in the SOH field, and determines, formulates, and institutes appropriate changes in the NSWG-2 Safety Program to assure the program embodies the latest SOH practice.
  • You will develop SOH standards for operations where existing standards are inadequate or where standards do not exist.
  • You will maintain a SOH library, performs periodic inspections and surveys of component command programs, workspaces, operations, and equipment for compliance with SOH standards.
  • You will be exposed to chemicals, explosives, asbestos and lead.
  • You will constantly evaluate assigned functional area operations for effectiveness, quality of performance, and progress in meeting objectives.
  • You will analyze and evaluate numerous diverse high-risk military operations such as the use of ammunition and explosive during live fire training exercises.
  • You will review all requests for deviation from established explosive safety standards to ensure that they comply with existing safety directives.

  • Travel by military and commercial aircraft IN-and-OUTCONUS is required (15%). Includes occasional flight in military helicopters or transport aircraft.
Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Managing Naval Special Warfare's Safety, Occupational Health, and Explosive Safety programs; developing and implementing policy for high-risk training, conducted mishap investigations, and ensured regulatory compliance to guarantee operational readiness and/or mission success for elite forces.

THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1109 of the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2020 Public Law 116-92 amended Section 9905 of title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.) to streamline and simplify certain Department of Defense civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to certain positions in the competitive service in the Department of Defense.

This position is eligible for ad-hoc/situational telework at the discretion of management.
