Sr Data Architect

Blu Omega is seeking a Sr Data Architect to support a program benefiting veterans and members of their families. This role operates in a remote environment and is responsible for designing and governing data ecosystems that enable secure, scalable, high-quality data operations. The position requires experience supporting enterprise data architecture and data governance in a mission-driven environment.

Mission overview: This client runs programs benefiting veterans and members of their families, including education opportunities, rehabilitation services, compensation payments for disabilities or death related to military service, home loan guaranties, pensions, burials, and health care services.

Responsibilities
  • Design enterprise data architecture solutions, including data models, data flows, integration patterns, and storage solutions.
  • Create logical and physical data models to organize, structure, and manage complex data environments.
  • Develop and oversee data pipelines, including data ingestion, transformation, quality rules, and security controls.
  • Develop and optimize enterprise-level data models, semantic layers, and interactive reports using business intelligence and visualization platforms.
  • Use data transformation capabilities to cleanse, shape, and integrate complex data structures for analytics.
  • Collaborate with analytics, engineering, and business teams to assess data requirements and translate them into scalable architecture designs.
  • Resolve data architecture-related issues, provide expert guidance on data warehousing methods, and recommend architectural improvements.
  • Support data governance efforts, including data sharing agreements, stewardship processes, metadata standards, and governance structures.
  • Ensure compliance with data security, quality, and lifecycle management standards across environments.
  • Engage stakeholders to align architecture with organizational, regulatory, and mission requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field).
  • 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or related technical disciplines.
  • Experience designing enterprise data models, data integration solutions, and data management frameworks.
  • Proficiency with data transformation frameworks or query/shaping languages used to model and prepare datasets for analysis.
  • Experience designing and developing enterprise semantic models, dashboards, and analytical datasets using modern BI or reporting platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with modern data platforms (AWS, Azure), databases, ETL/ELT tools, and analytics ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, metadata management, and information security.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS/Azure/GCP), distributed compute (e.g., Spark), or data virtualization.
  • Familiarity with architecture patterns such as event-driven architecture, big data analytics, or managed services.
  • Familiarity with X12 data format and healthcare claims data.
  • Prior experience supporting Federal, DoD, healthcare, or enterprise-scale transformation initiatives.

Compensation

Salary Range: $145,000 - $155,000

Final compensation is based on technical skills, experience, education, certifications, and clearance.
