WORK LOCATION: Kampala, Uganda
PROJECT DURATION: 24 MONTHS WITH EXPECTED FOLLOW-ON WORK WITHIN THE DoS PROGRAM
The position functions as the project architect, providing OBO a full range of critical architectural and construction quality assurance and management and technical oversight of the Kampala, Uganda project. A minimum of 7 years' experience is required on construction projects of similar scope and value to the Kampala, Uganda project. Design office experience shall not count toward an employee's experience. Overseas experience is preferred. The incumbent is responsible for performing technical inspections of architectural work, preparing detailed cost estimates, monitoring the contractor's quality control program, and reviewing project drawings and specifications to ensure compliance. Architect candidate desired to have historical architectural renovation experience.

- Ensuring that the contractor is performing the required contract work in accordance with the contract requirements
- Reviewing design and construction documents (drawings, specifications, narratives, reports, and calculations) and interpreting these documents and understand the principals of his/her technical area of expertise
- Observing onsite construction and determining if construction elements are being installed, formed, and executed properly
- Performing quality assurance tasks, ensuring contractor's work is properly inspected and corrective actions take place, ensuring materials meet contract, reviewing contractor submittals for compliance with contract requirements, and resolving conflicts
- Monitoring the construction contractor's quality control and safety programs, observing onsite construction and determining if construction elements are being installed, formed, and executed properly
- Monitoring construction progress vis-à-vis the project schedule and submitting weekly progress reports with recommendations based on the technical review of project documents and field inspections
- Performing technical inspections of the architectural elements of the project to document construction progress and identify problems or non-compliance with design or contract specifications, preparing construction reports as required by the OBO PD and providing digital photographic records to support reports, after problems are discovered, evaluating contractor's proposed remedy, formulating solutions for the Project Director/Construction Manager
- Reviewing shop drawings and submittals from the contractor and determining if coordination with other disciplines are necessary, reviewing and analyzing material samples, catalogs and brochures, installation manuals, calculations and other technical documents submitted by the construction contractor for conformity with construction contract requirements
- Performing work to U.S. standards; the incumbent should have current working knowledge of acceptable products and procedures
- Performing additional duties at the Project Director's discretion
Requirements
- An architecture degree (Bachelor's or above) from an accredited university and a minimum of seven years of experience required on construction projects of similar scope and dollar value to the project supported by this Task Order
- Design office experience shall not count toward an employee's experience
- Overseas experience is preferred
- Knowledge of international codes required
- Experience in assessing and responding to Requests for Information (RFI)
- Experience in reviewing and evaluating design calculations and data from an engineering perspective
- Knowledge of construction safety regulations, i.e. EM 385-1-1, OSHA, etc.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, i.e., PowerPoint, Excel, and Word required

- Experience with NOX, SPX, UTIL, CACs, PKG, EOB renovations and perimeter wall and site work
