HVAC Technician- Chilled Water Plant

  • Operate and maintain a semi-automated Chilled Water Plant utilizing York Turbomaster Chillers and associated pumps, valves, cooling towers, strainers, water treatment systems, control systems, and low-pressure steam systems.
  • Maintain records and logs of plant operations.
  • Install and maintain air conditioning and refrigeration systems and associated components, including compressors, heat transfer coils, bearings, belts, and pneumatic/DDC control systems.
  • Operate and maintain compressed air systems, oil burners, low-pressure steam heating systems, and hot water heating systems within the Laboratory.
  • Respond to emergency HVAC problems as needed.
  • Perform physical tasks such as climbing and maneuvering on ladders, staging, work platforms, and tight spaces; lifting heavy objects up to 50 pounds; and climbing over/around equipment in construction areas.
  • Position may require being on one's feet for 70-80% of the time.


Requirements

  • Massachusetts Refrigeration Technician's License (required).
  • Journeyman Pipefitter's License (preferred).
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (preferred).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the refrigeration field with strong experience in central chilled water plant operations and pneumatic/DDC control systems.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must obtain a 3A Hoisting License within 15 months to operate overhead cranes.
  • Must be able to work all shifts as required by MIT Lincoln Laboratory.
  • Required to work during site-wide semi-annual steam plant facilities maintenance shutdowns.
  • Position may require being on one's feet for 70-80% of the time (reiterated for clarity).
