Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Windows Systems Administrator to support secure research environments within a Special Programs IT team. This is a hands-on infrastructure role focused on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving Windows-based systems that support classified and unclassified research initiatives. Success in this position comes from being a well-rounded systems administrator who understands how systems operate end-to-end and enjoys solving complex technical problems.

Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Windows Systems Administrator to support secure research environments within a Special Programs IT team. This is a hands-on infrastructure role focused on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving Windows-based systems that support classified and unclassified research initiatives. Success in this position comes from being a well-rounded systems administrator who understands how systems operate end-to-end and enjoys solving complex technical problems.
What You'll Do
- Administer and support Windows Server and Windows 10/11 environments
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, network, storage, and performance issues
- Manage and maintain servers, virtualization (VMware vSphere), and core infrastructure services
- Support Active Directory, Group Policy, identity/access management, and file systems
- Develop automation using PowerShell (preferred), Batch, or Bash
- Monitor system performance using tools such as Splunk, Nagios, or SolarWinds
- Support backup, recovery, and disaster recovery operations
- Apply system hardening standards (DISA STIGs, SCAP) after onboarding
- Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps
- Collaborate with research and engineering teams across Windows and Linux environments
What We're Looking For
- Active Secret clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
- 3+ years of hands-on Windows Systems Administration experience
- Strong troubleshooting skills across compute, network, and storage layers
- Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation
- VMware or similar virtualization experience
- Understanding of secure system administration principles
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 4-7+ years of systems administration experience
- TS/SCI + polygraph eligibility preferred
- Linux (RHEL 8/9) in mixed environments
- Group Policy management experience
- SAN storage (NetApp, Dell Unity, HPE GreenLake)
- Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops
- Endpoint tools like MECM/SCCM, Ansible, or similar
- MSP background strongly valued for broad troubleshooting exposure
- Must obtain DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification within 6 months (sponsorship available)
Education and Certification:
- High School diploma or GED with at least 7 years of system administration experience, or bachelor's degree with equivalent hands on experience.
- Must obtain DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, CySA+, GSEC, CISSP) within 6 months of hire. Will sponsor certification if needed.
