Position Summary
ManpowerGroup Public Sector (MGPS) is seeking a mid-level System Administrator / Data Engineer to support missionâcritical systems for a federal customer in the National Capital Region. This role requires demonstrated hands-on experience in system administration, intermediate networking, preventative maintenance, and system issue resolution within a secure federal IT environment. The ideal candidate brings strong troubleshooting capabilities, experience implementing configuration standards, and the ability to operate with moderate independence while supporting complex data and system workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform intermediate-level system administration, including configuration, hardening, and maintenance of Windows and/or Linux systems in accordance with federal requirements.
- Conduct preventative maintenance, system tuning, patch management, and regular operational health checks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Tier 1–2 system issues, escalating complex incidents as needed in alignment with SLA expectations.
- Support and optimize data engineering workflows, ETL pipelines, and intermediate data quality and transformation tasks.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and security posture using governmentâapproved tools and dashboards.
- Maintain detailed documentation, configuration baselines, and compliance artifacts in accordance with RMF, STIGs, and federal audit expectations.
- Actively participate in change management processes, proposing improvements to enhance system reliability and security.
- Collaborate with senior engineers, cyber teams, and mission stakeholders to ensure secure and stable system operations.
Required Qualifications
- 7 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree + 3 years of experience in system administration, IT operations, or data engineering.
- Demonstrated competency in intermediate networking concepts, system configuration, and operational troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with Windows or Linux administration in a secure or regulated environment.
- Proficiency in scripting or automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python preferred).
- Ability to work within structured federal environments with strict documentation and security controls.
- Active government clearance (TS/SCI or higher, as required by customer).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Splunk, SolarWinds, Nagios, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with RMF, STIGs, vulnerability remediation, and secure configuration baselines.
- Certifications such as Security+, Network+, Linux+, Cloud+, or equivalent mid-level credentials.
- Experience supporting cloud environments (AWS, Azure) and working with SQL or data transformation technologies.
