Job Description
Position Title: Sr. Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) III
Location: Washington, DC — Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB) | 100% Onsite
Clearance: Top Secret (SCI eligibility required; sponsorship available within 1-2 weeks of hire)
Employment Type: Direct Hire, Full-Time
Openings: 2
Salary: $185,000 - $230,000
ABOUT THE ROLE
You'll join a collaborative, high-performing engineering team delivering mission-critical infrastructure and reliability solutions within the highest levels of the federal government. This is a systems-leaning SRE role — focused on stability, automation, incident response, and platform observability rather than application development.
You'll work alongside Platform Engineers, DevSecOps engineers, PostgreSQL DBAs, and Software Developers in a fast-paced, classified environment supporting a large, multi-customer federal organization.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Design, deploy, and maintain mission-critical application workloads on Kubernetes and virtualized environments, ensuring scalability, availability, and government compliance
Build and sustain automated CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, alerting, and configuration management workflows across development, integration, staging, and production environments
Provision and maintain developer environments and toolchains to enable rapid, secure, and efficient software delivery
Identify and eliminate friction across the software development lifecycle, building developer-first platform experiences
Own incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities across a large, multi-customer organization
Communicate clearly and confidently with senior stakeholders and high-visibility customers
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Active Top Secret clearance (required at time of hire; SCI sponsorship available)
DoD 8140 certification — Security+ or higher (required)
7+ years of experience in systems engineering, SRE, or operations with direct ownership of production availability and reliability
Heavy Kubernetes experience — this is the core technical requirement for this role
Familiarity with F5 or equivalent enterprise load-balancing platforms
Experience with Helm, Docker, Selenium, Ansible, and GitLab CI/CD automation
Experience with Bash scripting and Desired State Configuration
Experience with container-native and object storage solutions (MinIO, PortWorx, S3-compatible services)
Ability to contribute immediately with minimal ramp-up in a mission-critical classified environment
Flexibility for on-call rotation participation — structure varies across supported task forces
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related engineering field preferred; relevant experience may substitute
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Base salary: $185,000 - $230,000 (commensurate with qualifications and experience)
Performance-based bonuses
Company-paid training and/or certifications
Referral bonuses
Relocation assistance available (up to $10,000)
A NOTE ON FIT
This team works directly with some of the most senior leaders in the federal government. Beyond technical depth, they value engineers who lead with humility, communicate with clarity, and collaborate well under pressure. If you thrive in high-trust, high-stakes environments and are energized by mission-driven work, this role is worth a conversation.
This position is designated as essential personnel supporting continuity of operations and may require availability during government shutdowns, emergencies, or other critical situations.
Interested candidates should be fully comfortable with 100% onsite requirements at JBAB. This is not a hybrid role.
