Job Description

We have multiple openings for Security System Design and Configuration Specialists. You will support the Security and Protection (S&P) Program within the Security Organization. The S&P Program is responsible for managing the development, maintenance, and operations support of a physical security system at seven NNSA sites. The scope of work within the S&P Systems Engineering section will include providing technical and operational support for the Enterprise Assets Management (EAM) project, including coordination of physical security system equipment inventory, procurements, vendor and contract activities, distribution, obsolescence planning, and depot inventory support across NNSA enterprise sites. Responsibilities include developing CAD and fabrication drawings, maintaining system design files and configuration documentation for complex security systems, leading hardware distribution efforts, and coordinating with technical staff, customers, procurement personnel, vendors, and site stakeholders to ensure effective execution of project and operational objectives. These positions are in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate.

This position offers a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You will have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.

These position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

You will
  • Create, revise, and manage CAD drawings, fabrication drawings, configuration records, and other technical documentation using database and design management tools.
  • Respond to manufacturing and fabrication Requests for Information (RFIs) and coordinate resolution with appropriate technical staff.
  • Monitor, track, and research obsolete and long lead-time components; identify potential alternates using established methods and guidance.
  • Apply quality assurance requirements to technical documentation, hardware handling, and testing activities; coordinate with technical staff to ensure required reviews, test readiness, and documentation compliance.
  • Coordinate equipment deployment and distribution activities with the technical team and EAM lead, ensuring configuration control, documentation accuracy, and alignment with operational priorities.
  • Coordinate technical procurements for equipment and materials by defining documentation needs, tracking technical requirements, resolving vendor information gaps with engineering staff, and supporting timely delivery for project execution.
  • Maintain configuration and inventory records for EAM products and equipment, ensure traceability and accurate location/status data, and identify discrepancies for resolution with the EAM lead and technical staff.
  • Contribute to improving EAM operations, inventory management, and configuration control processes by identifying issues, evaluating existing workflows, and recommending practical process enhancements.
  • Interact effectively with technical staff, procurement personnel, vendors, customers, and site stakeholders to support project and operational goals
  • Coordinate equipment repair and replacement activities, including RMA actions, failure documentation, vendor communication, status tracking, and technical follow-through to support system readiness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities at the TSS.3 level
  • Advanced knowledge across one or more specialized technical fields relevant to mechanical and electrical drafting, design documentation, fabrication support, and configuration management.
  • Independently develop, revise, and maintain complex technical documentation, drawings, and configuration records for security system hardware and related assets.
  • Independently research component availability, obsolescence risks, pricing, and technical substitutes; evaluate options and provide recommendations based on cost, schedule, technical compatibility, and operational impact.
  • Lead selected hardware distribution, inventory, or configuration management efforts involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and parallel tasks.
  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations to team members, vendors, and stakeholders regarding design documentation, materials, fabrication methods, and implementation planning.
  • Represent the organization as a technical resource for assigned tasks and projects, and may provide guidance or informal mentoring to less-experienced personnel.


Qualifications

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical area, or equivalent combination of education and related experience. Relevant education may include Mechanical Drafting, Electro-Mechanical Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field containing significant coursework in science, mathematics, electronics, and engineering.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in a specialized technical field, and ability to broadly apply technical, operational, and business principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to independently perform assignments.
  • Experience supporting technical implementation activities, including coordinating tasks, tracking progress, and working with cross-functional stakeholders to support successful execution.
  • Strong facilitation and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively among diverse technical stakeholders and contribute to team-based problem solving.
  • Working knowledge of PCB design, electrical schematics, engineering hardware design, fabrication, assembly techniques, materials, testing processes, and manufacturing methods
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present technical or operational information.

Additional qualifications at the TSS.3 level
  • Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex technical issues requiring in-depth analysis, sound judgment, and creative problem solving.
  • Experience contributing to or leading technical efforts involving parallel tasks, competing priorities, and coordination across functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate technical alternatives and provide recommendations based on cost, schedule, operational impact, and technical compatibility.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills to present and explain technical information and provide advice to management, reviewers, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance and informal mentoring to others.

Qualifications We Desire
  • Experience using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Mentor Graphics PADS
  • Experience using PTC Windchill PDMLink design software.

Pay Range

$129,150 - $196,476 Annually

$129,150 - $163,764 Annually for the TSS.2 level

$154,950 - $196,476 Annually for the TSS.3 level

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
