Backend API Developer, Junior
Silver Spring, MD / Remote

Blu Omega is seeking a Backend API Developer, Junior to support a federal program focused on building the enterprise data layer for the National Weather Service. This role operates within a mission-driven environment and is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing APIs for searching and accessing weather datasets within that enterprise data layer. The position requires experience supporting backend/API development in a mission-critical data environment.
Program Overview
Program: CIRRUS (Central Integrated Real-Time Repository for Unified Services)
Mission overview: Build the enterprise data layer for the National Weather Service by enabling ingestion, processing, and dissemination of critical weather datasets, including radar, satellite, and numerical weather models.
Key Details
Location: Primarily Remote; occasional on-site support may be required in Silver Spring, MD. In-person team meetings may occur occasionally.
Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust suitability/fitness determination based on client requirements
Work Authorization: U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card)

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement Python Fast APIs based on requirements
- Follow approved Agile life cycle methodologies, create design documents, and perform program coding
- Resolve technical issues through debugging, research, and investigation
- Interpret data, analyze results, and provide ongoing reports
- Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources
- Identify, analyze, and interpret data sets and document recommendations
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of relevant professional experience
- Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree can count for 2 years of work experience)
- Strong knowledge of Python and experience with Fast API
- Experience with web services (RESTful)
- Experience with source control management (Git)
- Experience with build automation (Jenkins, Hudson)
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residence
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust suitability/fitness determination based on client requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an Agile development environment
- Experience with JIRA
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Compensation
Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000
Final compensation is based on technical skills, experience, education, certifications, and clearance.
