Job Description

Mission Systems Engineer

SRG is seeking a highly skilled Mission Systems Engineer to support operational environments, mission applications, data services, analytical platforms, and AI-enabled capabilities used by government and defense clients. This individual will serve as a technical lead for system administration, operational monitoring, troubleshooting, integration support, and sustainment activities across production and mission environments.

The Mission Systems Engineer will work closely with software developers, platform engineers, support personnel, client stakeholders, and the Alpha Development Team to ensure reliable system performance, operational readiness, and mission success. This role will support the transition of new capabilities from development into operational use while helping ensure that mission systems remain stable, secure, scalable, and aligned with client requirements.

Because SRG’s clients place significant importance on trusted data, this role will also support data governance, data quality, data lineage, and data provenance across mission workflows, integrations, and analytical processes. The Mission Systems Engineer will help ensure that data sources, transformations, outputs, and system behaviors are traceable, auditable, and reliable for operational decision-making.

This role requires a strong technical foundation, a problem-solving mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to operate effectively in secure and classified environments

Position Responsibilities
Administer, maintain, and support operational software platforms, mission systems, data services, and analytical environments.
Monitor system performance, availability, operational health, and mission readiness.
Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot data pipelines, system integrations, APIs, and backend services.
Support API management and connectivity with internal and external data sources.
Investigate and resolve technical issues escalated from support personnel, users, development teams, and client stakeholders.
Analyze logs, system metrics, operational alerts, data flows, and system events to identify root causes and corrective actions.
Support data governance processes by helping ensure data quality, integrity, accessibility, security, and compliance across operational environments.
Monitor and validate data lineage and data provenance throughout mission workflows, integrations, analytical processes, and AI-enabled system outputs.
Support traceability of data sources, transformations, calculations, models, outputs, and decision-support products.
Assist with metadata management, data cataloging, data stewardship, and documentation practices that support auditability and client trust.
Coordinate with software developers, platform engineers, and the Alpha Development Team to implement fixes, updates, enhancements, and new operational capabilities.
Support software releases, testing activities, deployment validation, and operational acceptance of new capabilities.
Support the transition of capabilities from development environments into production, operational, or classified environments.
Develop and maintain operational documentation, standard operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, system configuration records, and technical knowledge bases.
Participate in continuity, recovery, resilience, incident response, and operational readiness planning activities.
Support cybersecurity, accreditation, compliance, and Risk Management Framework activities as required.
Communicate technical issues, risks, dependencies, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Experience with APIs, system integrations, data pipelines, backend services, and distributed systems.
Understanding of data governance, data lineage, data provenance, metadata management, data quality, and information lifecycle management principles.
Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to analyze logs, system events, performance metrics, operational alerts, and data flows.
Familiarity with cloud, hybrid, or on-premise computing environments.
Ability to work effectively with software developers, platform engineers, cybersecurity personnel, support teams, and client stakeholders.
