Position Overview
Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer (Controls & Assessment Lead) to support a U.S. Government customer providing incident response services to civilian agencies and critical infrastructure organizations. This role focuses on leading security controls implementation, risk assessments, compliance activities, and security governance for technology integration initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with federal cybersecurity frameworks, risk management, security assessments, and Zero Trust architectures, ensuring innovative technologies can be securely integrated into operational environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead security controls assessments and implementation activities for technology integration initiatives
• Conduct risk assessments and security reviews of emerging technologies and pilot environments
• Ensure compliance with federal security requirements including NIST, FISMA, and FedRAMP
• Support RMF activities, authorization efforts, and security governance processes
• Define security boundaries, controls, and risk mitigation strategies for pilot and production environments
• Assess security readiness for operational deployment and scaling activities
• Develop security metrics, compliance documentation, and assessment reports
• Support continuous monitoring and security validation efforts
• Provide cybersecurity guidance to development, engineering, and operations teams
Mandatory Skills
• U.S. Citizenship
• Active TS/SCI Clearance
• Ability to obtain DHS Entry on Duty (EOD) Suitability
• 10+ years of cybersecurity engineering, security architecture, or related experience
• Expert knowledge of NIST 800-53, RMF, FISMA, and federal security frameworks
• Experience leading security assessments, authorization activities, and compliance reviews
• Strong understanding of risk management and security controls implementation
• Knowledge of Zero Trust architecture principles and implementation strategies
• Experience assessing the security of cloud, AI/ML, or emerging technologies
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills
Preferred Skills
• Experience supporting CISA or other federal cybersecurity programs
• Experience with cloud security assessments and authorization processes
• Knowledge of critical infrastructure security requirements
• Experience with continuous monitoring and automated compliance tools
• Familiarity with DevSecOps and security automation practices
• Background in vulnerability assessments or penetration testing
• ITIL, PMP, or similar operations/project management certification
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field
• Master's degree preferred OR High School Diploma and 7+ years of directly relevant experience
Desired Certifications
• DoD 8140 IAT Level III
• Certified Authorization Professional (CAP)
• Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)
