Location: Chandler, AZ (Onsite)
Pay: $73/hr W2 OR $86.50/hr 1099
Contract: 12 months to start (contract-to-hire intent)
Overview
Northrop Grumman is seeking an Engineer Aeronautical 2 to support the Mechanical Engineering & Energetics Department in Chandler, AZ. This role will support launch vehicle and propulsion system development through analysis, integration, testing, and hardware support activities involving ordnance, pneumatic, hydraulic, and motor systems.
The ideal candidate will have an aerospace or mechanical engineering background, active Secret clearance, and experience supporting propulsion, launch vehicle, missile, or space system development efforts.

This role will support launch vehicle and propulsion system development through analysis, integration, testing, and hardware support activities involving ordnance, pneumatic, hydraulic, and motor systems.
The ideal candidate will have an aerospace or mechanical engineering background, active Secret clearance, and experience supporting propulsion, launch vehicle, missile, or space system development efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform analysis, design, and testing of propulsion system components, materials, structural elements, and control systems
- Apply engineering principles, customer requirements, and industry standards to support launch vehicle, missile, and space mission programs
- Perform engineering calculations, analytical evaluations, and design studies to support product development
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design, optimization, and analysis efforts
- Support pneumatic and hydraulic component testing, including environmental and functional testing activities
- Serve as Responsible Engineer supporting supplier management, change notifications, non-conformances, and hardware acceptance reviews
- Participate in pre-launch engineering reviews and flight readiness assessments
- Conduct trade studies and evaluate alternative design approaches
- Develop conceptual designs, risk assessments, and project execution plans
- Interface with internal and external customers to define requirements and support system development
- Prepare and present technical briefings, design reviews, and proposal materials
- Travel up to 10% to supplier and launch facilities
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 2+ years of engineering experience OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline
- Active Secret Clearance required at time of application
- Strong engineering fundamentals related to mechanical, aerospace, propulsion, or launch systems
- Ability to work within multidisciplinary engineering environments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Top Secret Clearance
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
- Experience with MATLAB and Python
- Environmental testing experience
- Data acquisition equipment experience
- Configuration management experience
- Supplier and subcontractor management experience
- Experience presenting technical information to customers and leadership
- Failure investigation and root cause analysis experience
