Position Summary
The Network Analyst (Mid-Level) monitors and sustains the FBI's global network infrastructure from the Quantico Network Operations Center (NOC), providing Tier-2 support and direct response to globally deployed FBI users. The role focuses on proactive monitoring, fault response, configuration changes, and documentation across a hybrid Cisco and Linux-based routing environment, escalating to Tier-3 engineering when issues exceed Service Desk scope.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor networks for traffic anomalies, service disruptions, and indications of site or region trouble using provided network monitoring tools.
Monitor network router/switch status, respond to network alarms, and resolve associated problems.
Remotely access routers, switches, Type 1 Encryption devices, and other equipment to provide support.
Assist Systems Administrators with network directories, reports, and scheduling events.
Remotely monitor video teleconferencing equipment and resolve issues as necessary.
Troubleshoot and resolve network problems relating to all deployment kits.
Manage connection outages, bandwidth utilization, and peaks; create reports to show trends using the Network Management Information System (NMIS) software.
Take corrective action to ensure all switches, routers, and networks remain fully operational.
Perform configuration and "soft" changes to network devices (e.g., firmware upgrades, device configuration changes) as directed by FBI management and in accordance with the FBI change management process (FBI-approved changes only).
Perform port-security changes as necessary to ensure proper security compliance.
Perform remote control to servers to troubleshoot and resolve network issues.
Monitor network and systems performance and troubleshoot problems.
Create and maintain network diagrams for all new and existing deployed kits.
Configure new routers, switches, Type 1 Encryption devices, and other equipment for new deployment kits.
Escalate issues to Tier-3 engineers when appropriate.
Assist with maintaining network monitoring tools.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Minimum two (2) years of experience supporting data or telecommunications networks.
Experience with network analysis/management tools and techniques, and familiarity with PCs in a client/server environment.
Familiarity with IT technology and long-distance and local carrier management.
Experience deploying network configurations, conducting test/troubleshooting activities, and documenting network systems.
Ability to determine network usage, troubleshoot network problems, and add computer peripherals to the network.
Certifications
A certification in the applicable field or subject is required, such as (but not limited to) CompTIA Network+, CCENT, CCNA, or CompTIA A+.
Preferred
Ability to support and administer cloud-based resources is highly preferred.
