Job Title: HVAC Mechanic II


Job Summary:


Perform advanced installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems at FLETC Charleston. As DAWSON’s HVAC Mechanic II, you will independently diagnose and resolve HVAC issues in complex systems to ensure optimal climate control, system reliability, and energy efficiency.


Location: Charleston, SC


Responsibilities:


  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair a variety of HVAC equipment, including chillers, air handlers, VAV systems, VRV Systems, boilers, pumps, compressors, and split systems.

  • Perform system diagnostics and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and control issues.

  • Conduct seasonal start-up and shutdown procedures, including testing and balancing.

  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.

  • Maintain service records, logs, and documentation in accordance with maintenance schedules.

  • Ensure compliance with EPA regulations for refrigerant handling and all applicable OSHA safety protocols.

  • Support emergency and after-hours HVAC service calls as needed.

  • Work in accordance with Section C-5.B of the Facilities Maintenance PWS.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair.

  • Shall possess or actively pursue one of the following per PWS:

    • North American Technician Excellence (N.A.T.E.) Core Service plus Air Distribution Services Specialist or any service Knowledge Areas of Technician Expertise (K.A.T.E.) Specialty listed under the service category.

    • HVAC Excellence Professional - the following three certifications: Light Commercial Air Conditioning and Gas Heat

    • UA Star HVACR Mastery Certification



  • Universal EPA 608 Certification required.

  • Proficient in reading blueprints and HVAC schematics.

  • Strong knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) and controls preferred.

  • Ability to work independently, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Vocational training or technical certification in HVAC/R preferred.



Additional Requirements:


  • Must be able to obtain a favorable adjudication via a DHS background investigation and maintain suitability clearance.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident with work authorization.

  • This position may require the operation of Company-provided vehicles.

    • If operating Company-provided vehicles, maintaining a valid driver’s license in good standing is a condition of employment.

    • If operating Company-provided vehicles, employee must comply with all Company vehicle use and safety policies, as well as all applicable traffic laws.

    • If operating Company-provided vehicles, the Company may review your motor vehicle record (MVR), as permitted by law, to verify eligibility to operate Company vehicles.

    • If operating Company-provided vehicles, you must immediately notify the Company if your driver’s license is suspended, revoked, restricted, expires, or if your driving privileges otherwise change.



  • Work hours are 0700-1600 with availability to be on call outside of work hours.
