Computer Network Engineer (Journeyman / Mid-Level)
Location: San Francisco Bay Area (On-site / Hybrid)
Rate: To $55.00/hr BOE
Clearance: Public Trust (U.S. Citizenship Required)
Shift: 1st Shift | Travel: 25-50%| Relocation: Not Available

Overview
Peraton is seeking a Computer Network Engineer to join our HHS OIG IT Service Desk and Engineering Services team, supporting operations in the San Francisco Bay Area and remote regional offices. This position focuses on hands-on network support, implementation, and troubleshooting across enterprise environments. The ideal candidate is a professional, proactive problem solver with solid technical knowledge and a passion for improving network reliability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
• Support and maintain local and wide area network (LAN/WAN) infrastructure, switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems.
• Will need to travel to field offices in the San Francisco Bay area - Sunnyvale, Concord, San Francisco and where needed on the west coast.
• Assist in network upgrades, configuration management, and device remediation.
• Provide technical support for regional centers and remote sites, ensuring connectivity and uptime.
• Perform network troubleshooting, diagnostics, and performance tuning.
• Participate in data center operations, including rack layout, power/cooling checks, and cable management.
• Conduct site cabling and Wi-Fi implementation for office expansions, relocations, and refresh projects.
• Support Move, Add, Change, and Disconnect (MACD) requests and assist with equipment decommissions and site clean-ups.
• Work collaboratively with system, security, and service desk teams to resolve complex network issues.
• Maintain up-to-date network documentation, diagrams, and asset inventory.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelors degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field; 4+ years of network administration or engineering experience. NOTE: 7+ years without bachelors degree.
• Strong working knowledge of Cisco products, LAN/WAN, routing/switching, and Wi-Fi technologies.
• Experience with network troubleshooting tools and interpreting logs to isolate and resolve problems.
• Familiarity with one of more of the following: Palo Alto, F5, or similar enterprise networking platforms.
• Experience with ticketing systems such as ServiceNow.
• U.S. Citizenship with Public Trust already obtained
• Associates or professional-level certification (e.g., CCNA, Network+, or equivalent).
• Experience supporting federal health agencies (HHS, CMS, NIH, etc.).
• Familiarity with VMware AirWatch, Microsoft Intune, Splunk, or SIEM platforms.
• Knowledge of data center operations, structured cabling, and site infrastructure management.
• Hands-on experience with Wi-Fi deployment, switch configuration, and MACD processes.
• Exposure to project management and reporting.
