Position: Cleared Ukrainian Linguist

Location: Wiesbaden, Germany (NSATU HQ)

Clearance: Nato Secret Clearance

Compensation: €75,000 - €110,000 to include housing (approximate range in USD $86,000 - $115,000)

Job Description:

Mission Essential is seeking highly qualified, cleared Ukrainian Linguists to deliver accurate, professional, and mission-critical translation and interpretation services. Linguists will work under the guidance of Team Leaders and collaborate closely with senior language professionals to ensure the highest standards of quality and consistency. This role supports military and NATO-related communications and requires precision, confidentiality, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, operational environment. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Translation

  • Translate written materials (primarily military correspondence and official documentation) between Ukrainian and English
  • Produce high quality translations into both Ukrainian and English, as operational requirements may require translation into non-native languages
  • Revise documents based on feedback from senior linguists to improve clarity, accuracy, and mission suitability. This include incorporating edits, corrections, and terminology guidance prior to final submission
  • Ensure translations are culturally and contextually appropriate while maintaining fidelity to source content


Terminology Management:

  • Develop and maintain standardized terminology for NSATU.
  • Promote consistent and correct usage of terms, names, and phrases across documentation
  • Support the development and management of terminology databases and glossaries
  • Apply standards from the NATO Terminology Programme (NTP) and collaborate with subject matter experts as directed


Liaison Interpretation:

  • Provide liaison interpretation during meetings and engagements involving small groups
  • Facilitate clear communication between English- and Ukrainian-speaking personnel through informal, short-duration oral interpretation
  • Participate in training as required to ensure proficiency in liaison interpretation techniques


Working Conditions:

  • May be required to travel to NATO locations to attend meetings, conferences, or receive tasking
  • Standard operational hours: Monday-Saturday, 08:00-18:00 . Must be available to work rotating shifts within these hours, including nights and weekends as mission needs dictate


REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active and demonstrable professional use of both Ukrainian and English in adult life (e.g., university education, professional content creation, military language support, or equivalent experience)
  • Must be able fluent in all modalities (speak, read, write listen) in both English and Ukrainian
  • Must hold valid/active NATO Clearance
  • Ability to work in a secure and mission-driven environment requiring discretion and accuracy
