This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a General Engineer (0801-series), a Mechanical Engineer (0830-series), or a Naval Architect (0871-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. To Qualify for ND-04 Position : Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-03 (GS-09 through 11 equivalency) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer: applying fundamental engineering principles to design, develop, and evaluate technical projects or systems; support technical research and analysis to solve intricate engineering problems or conflicts; and coordinating engineering projects and presenting findings to various stakeholders.

Professional Engineering 08XX Series :
A professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college or university; OR a degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics; OR A combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) professional registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination; (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above; or (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering provided that it included at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement and have one year of professional engineering experience that required and was characterized by 1) professional knowledge of engineering, 2) professional ability to apply such knowledge to engineering problems, and 3) positive and continuing development of professional knowledge and ability.

Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree.

- You will be responsible for all aspects of submarine hydrodynamic model testing of new design, construction, and modified submarines.
- You will serve in a role critical to the execution of the NAVSEA approved Hydro Characterization Process for submarines.
- You will support and/or lead the overall planning and preparation for model experiments, instrumentation development for experiments, research and development, and data analysis and reporting.
- You will support and execute the conduct of Hydrodynamic, Ship Control, and special maneuvering model testing and evaluation on all classes of submarines/ships in the US Navy.
- You will develop and maintain submarine hydrodynamic performance model testing competencies for design, fabrication, data acquisition, data analysis, testing methodology, and instrumentation.
- You will require the ability to communicate orally and in writing, including technical writing, as well as oral and written presentations.
- You will require advanced knowledge of mechanical systems, engineering principles, and experimental measurement techniques.
