Basic Requirement for a Security Guard:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting armed patrols to protect personnel and property; responding to alarms and/or security incidents; and preparing incident reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

- Conduct initial inquiries for both administrative and potential criminal complaints.
- Monitor personnel access via both personal sight and electronic access control systems into restricted areas.
- Interview subjects, witnesses, and persons involved in cases.
- Prepare written reports on all incidents and investigations as required and must be willing to use case documents and/or testify during judicial proceedings as a witness or security professional.
- Conduct periodic parcel, package, container, and equipment checks following prescribed special procedures to ensure only authorized property is brought into or removed from military treatment facility.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds may be required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
- May be required to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Position may require employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
- This position may be designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- Firearms testing and successful qualification to service component published standards required on a semi-annual basis. This may include firing at night, with one hand, or while under time or physical stress.
- Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT).
- Required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals). - 12 hr. shift, every 6 mos. rotate from days to nights or nights to days
