Job Description
We are seeking an accomplished Director of Mobile Equipment Assets to lead enterprise wide fleet reliability, maintenance strategy, rebuild programs, and lifecycle management initiatives across multiple operating sites in the Southeast region.
This will be a remote position, traveling to manufacturing sites 50% of the time.

The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in Caterpillar, Komatsu, Sennebogen, and other heavy industrial equipment, supported by hands on maintenance and leadership experience within heavy manufacturing, aggregates, steel, mining, recycling, or related industrial environments. This individual will serve as a strategic partner to operations and maintenance leaders, driving standardization, performance improvement, and long term asset planning across the enterprise.
As a Director of Mobile Equipment Assets you will be accountable for maximizing equipment uptime, extending asset life, improving fleet reliability, and optimizing capital and rebuild expenditures across a diverse portfolio of heavy mobile assets.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead all aspects of heavy mobile equipment asset management, reliability, maintenance planning, and lifecycle strategy across multiple operating locations.
• Monitor fleet performance utilizing Caterpillar VisionLink, including runtime hours, fault codes, oil sample analysis, utilization tracking, and equipment health reporting.
• Manage and maintain all mobile equipment data within Asset Life Management (ALM), including:
o Asset ID creation and tracking
o Equipment purchase and ownership history
o Total machine hours and utilization records
o Rebuild and overhaul history
o Annual machine photographs and condition documentation
o Maintenance and asset-related records
• Partner with site operations and maintenance leadership to improve fleet reliability, reduce downtime, and standardize equipment maintenance practices across the organization.
• Oversee equipment rebuild projects by gathering vendor quotations, reviewing scope and costs, and addressing rebuild overruns or deviations from quoted pricing.
• Maintain regular communication with rebuild facilities and vendors before and during equipment rebuilds to ensure schedule, quality, and budget expectations are achieved.
• Develop detailed rebuild parts lists and planning documentation for Kress equipment and other major fleet assets.
• Drive preventative and predictive maintenance initiatives focused on improving equipment availability and extending asset life cycles.
• Support development and management of annual capital budgets, fleet replacement planning, and long-term asset strategies.
• Create and manage all Capital Asset Requests (CARs) related to mobile equipment purchases, rebuilds, and major repairs.
• Lead and develop Regional Asset Reliability Managers while promoting accountability, reliability standards, and operational consistency across all sites.
• Utilize E Maint, Maximo, VisionLink, ALM, and Oracle systems to support maintenance planning, reporting, asset tracking, and operational decision-making.
• Travel regularly to operating sites, rebuild vendors, and equipment shops to support field operations and asset management initiatives.
• Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Heavy Equipment Technology, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in heavy mobile equipment maintenance, asset management, reliability, or fleet operations within an industrial or heavy manufacturing environment.
• Prior mechanic, field service technician, maintenance supervisor, or maintenance manager experience strongly preferred.
• Strong technical knowledge of Caterpillar equipment, Komatsu equipment, Sennebogen material handlers, and Kress heavy equipment.
• Proven experience managing large equipment rebuild programs and third-party vendor relationships.
• Strong understanding of preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, equipment reliability, and lifecycle cost management.
• Experience with capital planning, budgeting, and equipment replacement strategies.
• Proficiency with Caterpillar VisionLink, Asset Life Management (ALM), E-Maintenance, Maximo, and Oracle ERP systems preferred
• Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and leadership skills.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, multi-site industrial environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%.
Compensation & Benefits
• Base salary: $172,200 – $215,250 depending on experience.
• Annual bonus target: 25%.
